    BOB - December 12 2009

After much to-ing and fro-ing with the Canterbury Car Club regarding hire of the track for BOB, I have come up with a date. I also had to take into consideration other race dates. We were very unlucky with the preferred date of 10 October 2009 being booked 18 months ago. I have spoken with CAMS president and the BOB will be held on 12 December 2009. This is also the day of the CAMS Xmas meet. We will be able to run our classes within the CAMS timetable and the hold the BOB at lunchtime. We will have the whole track to play with and the beauty of it all is that we don't have to hire the track. I know that this is a bad time of year with Christmas a couple of weeks later, but we will be able to keep the cost down. The guys coming down from up north will not have a 2nd day of racing. I tried, but the next available date was April or May!

Does that mean the 1 hour will be full track?

Maybe. there will need to be discussion about that. What is your preference full or B track?

Good to see you got a date, counts me out though, to close to Taupo to make the $ streach

For the record Qkkid was in my bed, not the other way round

How is it that the date could be booked 18 months ago, the bike clubs certainly can't book that far ahead

Bugger, shit, wank, and all that... only one days racing, 2 weeks before the GP and huge costs to get there. I can't see me making it...

no club can I thought... could well be wrong tho.

pitty how the bmrc had worked its way to a day of their own... but not this time, never mind at least there will be a chance for an indurance for some.
Was there no possibility of the AM of a BEARs meet as done in the past?
    cheers DD

Yes, I agree, that close to Taupo - makes it very difficult financially for a lot of people. I would have made it earlier in the year rather than later.

I have heard some stories about BOB in the dead of winter and that has its own kind of appeal.

I was going to pull my leathers out and do it as well, would have been my first bucket even in New Zealand, please count me out as I have financial commitments in the nationals so wont be doing the BOB.

My preference is for B track. Although if its the tri-oval then it means we can use timing gear, makes things a lot easier for the lap scorers. Definately not full track, an hour on that and I could see a few bent valves...

Well done for getting it organised. I tend to favour the full track for BOB. Sure, the front straight is boring, but we get the full infield, dipper and sweeper as compensation. In saying that, I would quite happy with B track too!

    B track all the way.

Doing it in winter has no appeal Shaun, winter is for the Brass & that's about it. People were coming in with no feeling in their hands close on hypothermia & that was just the spectators.

In one way that gives me max time to heal, but in the other it means two trips away from the fandamly in two weeks. That may be a big ask.

Hmm, are they going to run the open 50cc GP again? Will they apply in a manner that the MNZ won't reject it (for whatever reason the old bloke steward said)?

    2 day event?

Sadly wont be able to make the date. But BOB was awesome last year, one of the highlights of my racing career, even if it has been so short.
