YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - CRC AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE CRC. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Yep been there but in Auckland

Had my yzf 750 sp head re done valves cut new stem seals etc.Took the head off my self,it was not cheap and cost about $1000 bucks. If you are just grinding then it should be cheaper its a reasonably involved job not to difficult but needing the right tools and a bit of time.

If all your needing is a valve grind its a DIY go to repco get the paste and stick do it your self , you will need all the gaskets etc which can make it a bit more expensive, trouble is once you get the head off where do you stop. You are only limited by cost.

Your going to have to reset all the valve clearances so you will have to go to your honda dealer. If they are nice they will let you swap the shims that go into the buckets. Machine shop can grind the tops of the valve stems also to get the clearance back.

To do valves right the seats have to be recut if they have any wear and in this case new valve guides etc may aslo be needed.

Gee while your at it why not do new pistons and rings as if the top end needs doing the bottom is probably getting a bit tired to.

Went to Boyles today, equipped with the head...
they said tip it this way pour petrol down the holes, if it escapes do that valve.
then turn it the other way and pour petrol down the other holes, do the same thing... oh and by the way put that bloody cigarette out... oh, and you definatly need 2 more valves, honda (sawers) don't sell them now but there is a bloke up north who does them for $70 each.

It is a 1990 cbr so no shims i have a slightly modified 10mm socket and screwdriver for that job.

Sounds like you have it pretty well sussed out then. MC head my mind always thinks buckets and shims.

What valves are you replaceing (exhaust or inlets)? Just out of interest.
