Of course you can, I used to txt all the time when I rode up north often, I had the 12 then, and it has this neat little tray type setup on the tank, my phone sat in it nicely so it was easy to txt with one hand

Nothing is impossible ..... maybe not safe, but can be done. I've not made a text, but have checked an incoming one
