Omaka Air Show

Ok then, heres one for all the avation nuts on KB...... and I know theres a few of ya's.

These are a few pic's of the show this w/e of the very early shiters from WW1 I have pic's of the WW2 and Early passanger air craft as well if anyone wants them posted.
A RNZAF 757 flew in very low very fast and put on a display that was awesome showing us its massive rate of assent and agelity.
But the WW1 aircraft were the ultamate as usual, and this year ther were a few new planes in the show.
Believe it or not but Omaka is the only place in the world were thes planes can be seen flying as a group and in fact the last time this many Triplans flew together was in 1918..... wicked.

Now for those that arnt up with these type of aircraft then heres the basics... the engine is a 5-6cyl rotery engine, now by rotery I dont mean a wankel engine, but were the crank is fixed to the fram of the aircraft and the air screw is fixed to the engine block and the intire engine with air screw spins at full noise.
Theres no throtle control in the likes of the Camel but 3 switches called a engine interupter wher by flicking switch 1 kills the mag on that cyl... hence it looses power by one cyl. the next switch kills 2 mags and the 3rd kills 3 mags..... another words power is iether on 6 pots down to 1 pot.... they sound rather weird in fact you think its going to drop out of the sky.

Yeah I think you mean 'radial' engine, not rotary...

Na mate, a radial engine dosent spin around with the prop, but they do look the same when not running...... rotary, the hole engine rotates with the prop.

Its was great and I didnt even need to pay for it, just climbed onto the roof with a pair of Binos and got a totally unobscured FREE veiw of the Airshow, hehe

That Camel did sound so so so so sick with cylinders being cut out to control its output.

They had quite a few BMW and Norton ww2 era sidecars, including one that drove off BOTH of its rear wheels.Must have been useful for retreating in russian mud. Lots of guns, a mock up ww1 tank which was pretty cool.
Mock battles of ww1 and ww2, yeah it was loud and the germans lost.

Man that thunder mustang was FFFAAAASSSTTT. Oh for the 2 stroke fans there was one of these
