VTR1000 baffles?

Ok I have bought myself a 2005 VTR1000 and unfortunatly bike came with no manual(I'm fourth owner so no surprise really) at all so I'm sort in the dark on how my bike parts function, how to change this and that etc...

Now one thing I notice is that the exhuast or engine sometimes makes a popping sound when ever I change done or maybe when I twist the throttle while stationary would this be a carby thing?

The exhausts on this bike have had their baffles modified so they're removeable (done by Cycleworks) and the right baffle is fraking tight to get out or back in for that matter(need tools to remove and hammer bac in) so what could be the issue with this baffle? And I notice some smoke residue(not a big smoke cloud or anything but noticable) comming come out of the right exhaust after shutting engine off but not left, would this be related to the exhaust having mod baffles?

Would imagine its a fuel issue though if not then a can not sealed,after repacking mine last time i had issues similar and ended up removing can applying high temp silicone and re-fitting,end of problem.Easy way to tell if its the can is to start the bike up and feel round joint for any air escaping.

So can dirty clogged carbs cause this then?

Wouldnt imagine so but if its running rich/lean it may do so,take out the plugs and have a gander.Black as is rich,if its dry etc its running lean.

Sorry I have no manual nor had time yet to have a nosey at the egine so what are these plugs and what do you mean by rich/lean? As in the fuel concentration?

Mate is this a wind up?Surely.If not then its the spark..............na surely your winding me up?Edit if not then i would hook up with someone around your neck of the woods who rides,must be a few on here and get him to have a look at the plugs etc am sure it will be easily sorted.

Spark plugs I know yes. Thought you were refering to some tiny part/s that that exsisted elsewhere on the bike Well I aint very mechanicaly minded anyway so would proberly blow up my bike if I try to do it myself

Though as i said earlier you can dis-count an unsealed can by starting the bike (from cold is better as you wont burn your hand) and running your hand round the can,both ends.If theres air puffing out from the bottom joint (where it attaches to exhaust) or if theres rivets in other end check that then that will cause backfiring.

Good on ya,make him take the plugs out himself.Once he gets a taste of working on his own bike he will become another garage recluse disappearing into the garage Friday night and not emerging till Sunday dinner time.

I could always get me old man to teach me. He's fixing up an old 1975 Honda CB750 Four. Anyway I tried not to tamper with bikes too much as I usualy go the bike shops to do important work for me as most buyers like to see that stuff when looking at bikes. Plus good tolls are expensive!

you can brng it out next week if I am not working if you like and I will ave a look over it.

I might look at that, but will have to see if I have time these next two weeks as I'm flat hunting at the moment. Would like to avoid the bike shop costs to look at my bike when someone who knows about them can do the same.
