    Question Teknic Freeway Jacket

Hi guys,i have just gotten into riding and brought a set of teknic cordura jacket and pants. They are supposedly 100% waterproof blah blah blah yet after stopping after 40mins of riding on the open road in light rain I was completely soaked. However it was only from the front zip, it has all the waterproof seal or whatever you want to call it. Should I be questioning this? If anyone could shed some light on it/ opinions it would be much appreciated

This is a link to the jacket I brought

I assume you bought it new from a shop? If so, take it back and point out that it's not waterproof as they claimed. All the specs in that link say it's waterproof "Japanese waterproof zippers" etc so you have every right to expect it to be waterproof.

When I started riding a year ago, I brought rev it gear from ANZA and I've ridden in absolutely pouring rain for 1/2 an hour of so and stay dry, only with the inside liners in I might add. With the liners out I get wet

Yes I noticed from the link that it wasn't cheap!

But whatever the price you're still covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act. If they tell you it's waterproof, then it has to be waterproof.

I agree too, if it's sold to you as "waterproof" then that's what it has to be.

    Hi Mad.mike.
I have one of these jackets and I must say it is very dry.
Very warm and one of the best jackets I have.
Take it back. It may just be a bad one.
    Good luck.
Ride it until the wheels fall off...

Looks like the jacket that Dogs,Bassa,Yod and Kiwikat have? Never heard a complaint about them leaking and look the biz!

Yeah be firm with them it took me 6 months to get a pair of gloves replaced by Teknic that I had worn out in 4 hours of riding

It may depend on whether they have any replacements in stock. When I bought my boots it was the same deal, no replacement so they'd have to send it away for 6 weeks... Said bugger that and got them to swap them for a slightly more expensive pair +cash. Best way of dealing with it is just be firm, calm and polite. If they say they need to send it away explain that you need a jacket still, don't have a spare and this will be major inconvenience. If there is nothing they can do about it, ask if they have any spare jackets that you could be loaned in the meantime or something similar. Generally if you stand there long enough and are persistent then something will happen.

Yeah, but ultimately you were buying a reasonably expensive jacket because they said it would do a certain job and you needed a jacket. The fact that it failed in the first instance didn't change the second!

I have one of these jackets, and have ridden for about 20 minutes in absolutely pouring rain...without the thermal liner in.I didnt really notice when i bought it that it didnt have a flap over the zip. When you put it on make sure that the flap on the inside of the zip is flat AND the "bend back" part of the flap is actually folded back on itself.
    ________ZIP___________
    ______
I____________________________ main flap behind zip has a little fold back part so theoretically any water getting past the zip has to run down and out the bottom
