Shift Dyer Hybrid jacket - Any good?

Hey again guys,

Looking at buying a Shift Dyer Hybrid Jacket, brand new - $299.

Has anyone has any experience in rain/falling off in this jacket?

If so, could you let me know how it performed?

Also, if it mainly leather or whats the deal with a Hybrid jacket?

From your post it sounds like youve seen it online but not tried it on? (your 'is it mainly leather' question...

First thing I would suggest in getting 'off the rack' gear is to try it on before buying...unless you are getting it custom made.

It will be annoying to have things like collars cutting into your neck, or underarms digging in when in riding position...
Some may even say dangerous...

I have a hybrid jacket too - Rev'It Kubix.
The alleged point of a hybrid (like the Kubix) is that it has the leather in locations possibly abraded/impacted in a crash (e.g.shoulders, elbows, chest), and textile in others less likely (abdomen, ribs, forearms...).

The intention was to make it lighter (less leather), more flexible and forgiving in fit (less leather), cheaper to manufacture (less leather), easier to maintain (less leather), cooler in summer (less leather)

Did I mention use less leather?

The Kubix is not waterproof...it didnt come with a waterproof lining, just a thermal one. Dunno about the Dyer.

Crash test?
I had a bin recently...somewhere between 0 and 40kmh.
I slid and rolled.
Leather parts of jacket (elbow, shoulders) have some visible scuffs. No holes.
Textile parts of jacket didnt seem to get touched.
Textile pants got abraded and ripped on front of upper thigh. Dunno how...
BUT this suggests the strategically located leather of my hybrid did its job in holding up with the tarmac abrasion in my case of binning.
Shoulder that got less abraded hurt more than the one that got more abraded. The armour (Knox) and jacket fit right, so guess something else happened other than impact...Doubt having an all leather jackt would have improved things in this bin.

Hope there is some decent stuff for you in the Dyer!

Oh I only ever buy stuff online if I can return if I doesn't fit me right, got some boots comming from Waikato Yamaha (THANKS GUYS!) that will arrive tomrrow and if they aren't right will just send back.

Oh ok so it's leather some places and cordura other places? From the research I can do, this jacket is more Leather then cordura.

Might just buy-it and try it on

I think the price is great, but I want to know if anyone has crashed in the jacket and if it gave sufficient protection. Also, if anyone says that it leaks alot.

Always weary of cheap stuff...

If it's like the one I have (in my profile pic.... but you're probably looking at the black and red one) then they are great! I love mine! I haven't crashed in it (hope to not as that would mean I've crashed my Hornet

) I find that it's fine in the cooler months with a thermal and a light jersey underneath and perfect in the summer as opposed to a full leather jacket, has more ventalation so you don't cook sitting at the lights etc. They aren't water proof, but are fine in a light shower, however you could possibly put some water proofer on it to keep a bit more water out. Very comfy, light and they look pretty snazzy. That's a good price you've found, I bought mine from the States when the dollar was good as I wanted the silver one and it cost me about that and they were about $600 here. Buy it, why not!
