    Smile Honda Hornet (250cc)

    I've been reluctant to part with this bugger since I got her last winter. Plenty of horsepower between the legs packed into an attractive learner-legal package, you can't get much better than this! Unfortunately she has to go... I can no longer afford to keep so many toys.

    Bike contains all original stock Honda parts.

    Bike is in Richmond, Christchurch. Buyer can arrange transport at buyer's cost and risk. I had used BikeTranz previously and would recommend them if bike transport is required.

    Hi... question. Any idea why bike has only 4'500km?

    How many k's was on the bike when you bought it?

    Hey Zapf,

    When I bought the bike it was just a bit over 2,000km. So yea, I'm embarrassed to say I've ridden her only about 2,500km in over the 10 months I've had her. Can I blame it on a leg injury last year? I usually only ride her to commute to work.

    I did ask about the authenticity of the odometer when I bought her freshly imported from the importer. The importer says there's no reason to doubt it's been wound back as it runs very well, cosmetically mint except foot brake pedal (see photo in original post or Trade Me listing), and that it's not uncommon to find Japanese commuter bikes with such low mileage. I had the bike checked by my favourite bike shop immediately after I bought her, with the thinking that should anything be amiss I can return to the importer within the 3-month warranty period. It was all good. My guess is that the previous Japanese owner used it as a commuter bike (instead of cycling) to the train station and back, and apparently it's not that uncommon in Japan.

    She needs a new battery... I forgot to mention that in this thread but it was on the Trade Me listing.

    No problem. Thanks for the reply. So foot peg has been broken and welded back? its a good enough repair by the looks of it. Have you had it serviced since you ownership? and are the tires factory tires? e.g circa 1997?

    It's not the foot peg, but the foot brake lever. I think you got it right, but I just want to clarify. The repair work is definitely good.

    I haven't changed the tyres since I had the bike so I don't know when they were first put on her. To be honest I think they could be factory tyres - my last VTNZ WoF report noted the tyre threads were 2mm front, 4mm rear, so the front's likely due for a change soon.

    I've had her serviced by my favourite bike shop. Meaningful bits from the report as follow (I'm not mechanically inclined so if any of the following reads weird - blame it on the bad handwriting!):-

    - checked air filter
    - checked plug colour
    - checked choke operation
    - lubed clutch cable and lever
    - lubed front brake caliper and lever
    - lubed rear caliper pivots
    - checked coolant and brake fluids
    - both have been changed
    - checked oil
    - checked chain
    - set tyre pressures
    - replaced head light bulb
    - test road bike
    - adjusted throttle

    I've also replaced the spark plugs with 4 NGK Iridium ones - CR8EHIX-9.
