“No-pillion law” in Guatemala sees drive-by killing drop by 84%!

A law making two-up riding on a motorcycle illegal in Guatemala has proven a spectacular success, with police reporting an 84% drop in drive-by killings.

The law also brought in a host of road safety regulations, including making wearing jackets and helmet obligatory and for a bike to have visible number plates.

Guatemalan gunmen had used to using motorbikes to escape from murder scenes in heavy traffic.

Hmm nice place to live, that Guatemala is. Oh well at least it has had some useful spin offs ATGATT , etc. There I was thinking it had reduced fatalities due to only half the potential number being killed by being run over.
