I had to go to the doctor today.... the place was deserted and the few people I did see 3 of them were wearing masks, then my doctor tells me that because of the type of medication I'm on that if I get any of the symptoms that I have to get in within 24 hours to see her so they can look me over and give me tamiflu.... bugger... maybe I won't go to any swine flu parties!

Just finished having the Flu. Had the flu injection earlier in the year as I work as a Nurse so it was most likely Swine Flu and not one of the normal season flu's. Has cost us four days off work, but as front-line health workers, we have got Tami flu free. This helped big time. The flu was not too severe. Did have me sleeping most of the day for two days and went off my food then too. Temp was 39.1 C at the worst (panadol helped keep that in control). Headaches and body aches. Just had to rest-up and drink lots of fluid until our bodies felt better. We stayed at home to help stop the spread. So all-in-all no worse than having a normally seasonal flu, which kills some effected people too.

My advice is Don't Panic. Avoid contact if you can. If ya get cold and flu symptoms, stay at home (don't give it to others by taking it to work). Rest-up. Drink heaps. Stay warm. Ring ya Doc only if the symptoms get bad (eg: difficulty breathing) or don't improve after a few days.

As health and safety rep on the floor at work, I have an armoury of masks. I think most people have grabbed them so they can use them as sanding or dust masks generally.

People who should be worried about any influenza strain (swine flu is no different) are those in at risk categories - fat, diabetes, low immune system abilities etc.. (sorry for the overly technical medical explanation). A lot of bourbon can be used to counteract and fight said ailments (or 'ale'ments if you prefer).

What people fail to realise is once those masks have been owrn for about 10 minutes they are then rendered useless!

I wasnt happy to get cancer.

BTW - I also smoke and am a severe asthmatic and I am still not "worried" by the thought of getting swine flu.

Well OK I'll buy into this having just written our business continuity plan for infectious diseases....

As a type 1 diabetic which is an auto immune disease (supressed immune system) I get seriously fucked off with the coughers and snotties. A well heeled gent copped my ire after he hoiked on the street (dirty cunt) yesterday..

Soap kills this, fer christs sake, a bit of BASIC common sense would stop 75% of illnesses...
