    3500 cumecs...hmm √3500=59 so it is 30m x 5.9 m of water flowing at 20m sec =72 km hr!

    It was not the speed of water ... just the sheer VOLUME of water ... the lower end of the bridge pictured was touching the water ...

    3500 cumecs is about the same as what comes out of my shower. Got one of those big round shower roses so when I jump into the shower everyone in Ashburton curses as the water pressure drops! Very un environmentally friendly but awesome shower!!!!

    And I was duty flood controller. These photos were taken after the peak flow had already passed. The peak of the flood happened at 01:00 in the morning.
