    GPZ600R rebuild

Recently I scored a 1986 GPZ600, UK import, Kermit green, very pre-loved and it had been stolen recovered. I managed to get it to start but it would not idle and had to run on full choke. However it sounded OK when the revs got up so I warmed it up then drained all the fluids. At the moment I am waiting for the new tank and have seals and kits on order while the frame is at the blasters. Also the fairings are all getting plastic welded including flushing off the indicator mounts as I will be fitting LEDs somewhere unseen! Meanwhile I have painted the motor and set tappets and replaced thermostat and o rings etc ready for the frame to be added. Stupidly I didn't take a "before" photo!

I am nearly done with this. I have new tyres fitting tommorrow and the body work is painted ready to fit. So wheels, brakes, bodywork and indicators and we're there! So far it has cost $2550 and I haven't paid for the tyres or bodywork paint! That will take it close to 4G, wonder what it will be worth? Will sell this one and start another project probably. Anyone have an old bike, complete, that is looking for a good home?

    No problem.

Seen one for sale on tardme, I thought about it, but have decided I'll go a newer bike.

    Thanks for the offer though!

I'm sure someone will pick the little gem up.

Are parts hard to get for her?

No, parts are a bitch for the most part. It was complete when I got it so I have only had to replace a few things.

Very nice As a GPZ owner (or maybe it owns me) I appreciate what you're doing there, you very nearly have encouraged me to start a winter project ... very nearly. What are you doing for exhausts? I need to sort out something on mine, they're falling apart - just wonding if you have any tips of places to get suitable aftermarket but not too expenisive 'zorsts.

I am using the original exhaust but have to repair it a little! It would be nice to replace it but costs are escalating now! I have no idea where to go to get a replacement. Look at this website? Prob cheaper than here in NZ!

Got the clothes back on it now, fitted but not fixed on.
Started it up a week or so ago and it leaked oil, petrol and water! Few jobs later and that is all good, just need to re-fit all tha pegs and headlight/ind and we're ready for a test ride!
