    Road condition warning thread/forum.

Probably this has already been suggested but how about a sub forum especially with notices about road conditions?
Not normal day to day stuff more the Diesels been dumped on this road or councills dug up a section of that road heads up kinda thing.

Yes but I can see it would require heavy moderation...

    "All of Auckland is cr*p"
    "Northwestern is a carpark"
"State highway ** is one giant pot hole"

    etc etc

How would a person check though? Say for example someone was planning to ride from point A to point B along road X. The thread has been going a while, so say about 100 pages long...

Would need to search for thread, then search within thread and then filter results by date to get most up to date?

This thread used to be a sticky. Somewhere. It should be made easy to find tho...
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    I'll try that again.
A series of threads rather than a single one-- perhaps with only the OP able to contribute--to stop old threads getting back to the surface.
The information needed might get buried.
The reason I "reraised" (is there such a word) this is because a truck spilled a couple of litres of diesel on corban ave this AM --not good for a biker

Needs something with live updating perhaps, almost like KBspy system.

But with a filter, say type in SH16 and you get all updates relating to that.

Even better, tie it into the police comms email system so any accidents appear on list as well.

Yes. Single forum, new post for every new hazard. Thread title must mention place and nature of hazard, e.g.
Auckland: giant dragon eating bikers on northwestern motorway
    That sort of thing.

Everyone would like to start a thread that gets stickied.

Road warnings are a controversial subject.

Firstly, you probably shouldn't be moving so quickly that you need advance warning of hazards on the road, and then you should be relying on your own eyes and skills and not those of others, and lastly people who are planning a long trip would be better served to post the details of their trip on KB and ask for current and local advice.

    "Wow, Great advise there DB."

Where are you comeing from steve??
Have you ever hit Diesel mid corner?
    Or an unmarked roadworks?
2 Times Ive ended up on my arse in 30 odd years of riding have been encountering that kinda shit. And other than not riding at all the end result wouldn't have changed regardless of speed.

None of those things are any one elses' responsibility to manage except yours. You shouldn't be relying on a forum on the internet to manage your road risk.

I have come across all manner of crap on the road, and I always get around it, or not. I swerve around black cows in the dark, rocks, road cones (hit one with my mirror yesterday) and wet spots with leaves all over them. Thats just a combination of experience, skill, and time.. and when the chips are down, well thats just roadcraft innit.

Checking a route in advance gives some level of security - debate on, whether that security is false or not. For myself, my eyes, skill, and wits, are my only security on the road.

I will warn motorists coming the opposite direction though.

My gosh, you seem to have about as much warmth and compassion as a service station chip.

There are some people in this world who care about others - there are even a few on this forum (Frosty being one of them). These people are the kind of people that go out of their way to help others.

Even if one person is spared a nasty off on a patch of diesel his effort and the efforts of those contributing to the thread would be worth it.

Well.. back to the topic in hand:

Maybe in a densely populated environment it will work. That is already happening on KB with diesel spill warnings etc.

General open-road, no. Theres no way you will be able to fully document that on such a basis it can be relied upon.

And then you will get the people who rely on it and stop thinking. Bad.

Also, it is misleading, insulting, and wrong, to suggest I do not care. I just choose areas that I know I can make a difference with.

I'm not saying a difference cannot be made here. The question was posed and I offered my opinion. Cap/fits/wear.

Sounds like a good idea, should be made as a sticky on home page(as said before) so that it is easy to find and update. More info the better , it does'nt mean I stop thinking when I ride, it just allows me to be able to make more informed decisions.
