I have always tried to ride in a courteous manner as it is in my nature to be like that. However Katman's questions always add an opportunity to reflect and reassess ideas, concepts and assumptions.

His questions are not usually abusive or abrasive - this comes from the degeneration in debate which follows.

I think he has had more influence than many would be prepared to publically admit to (probably because it might mean owning up to less than desirable attitudes and behaviour....) Not to mention that lots of people don't like their boat being rocked.
I lahk to moove eet moove eet...

    Agreed.
The way he comes across to me is that he is trying to make people stop and think about the way they ride and is trying to make people see that its not only themselves they hurt if they crash due to reckless riding.
I don't see how some of you think he is imposing his views upon you, last time i checked he had not put a speed governor on my bike.
However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.

To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded

Agreed too. I know that he doesn't always put the message across in terms that are agreeable to some people, but I believe he is well intentioned.
There are some on KB that have had past disagreements with Katman and now seem determined to disagree with everything he says and rather than debate the relevant points have resorted to a personal slanging match.
At the end of the day, if his posts have made one or two people think about how they ride and adjust accordingly then he's done a good deed IMHO.

I can't really say that his campaign, crusade or whatever you want to call it (I would call it well intentioned advice) has made much if any difference to how I ride as I err on the side of caution when riding on the road as I'm not so concerned about my skill or lack of, I'm much more concerned about the unseen threat that could be lurking around the next corner - you know the type, the SUV driver from Remuera that thinks their 2 tonne 4WD can corner at the same speed as their Porsche Boxster, half pissed on their way back from the skifield.... and so many other similar threats we face on a daily basis.

I freely admit I didn't ride with this sort of forethought/insight when I was a teenager, but of course back then I was 10ft tall and bulletproof and I was also sadly lacking the benefits of that great teacher - experience. I just hope some of the younger guys that mock the sort of advice given out by Katman live to gain similar experience...

Is that a joke? Surely that is a troll? You have seen the KB'er site award he won?

    "Stone Deaf"

Ever wonder why? He's well known for avoiding any intelligent debate on his own issues instead resorting to what in most cases ends up in PD, for good reason.

You most probably won't but do a little home work on the last two years of this.

I thought since were talking about ya bro's ability to convey the message it was a rather fitting picture

One of the things I enjoy about KB is evaluating the range of opinions that are expressed about everything. I don't think he's directly influenced my riding but the discussions around his posts have been entertaining and educational.

Definitely not a joke, and the mere fact that some disaffected people have nominated a person for an award doesn't neccessarily mean they deserve it, plenty of people nominate and vote as a pisstake. For instance Sully60 is site perv, does that mean he's a filthy old pervert in a trench coat? Of course it doesn't.
I've seen plenty of the debates to which you refer and whilst Katman is certainly not blame free, as in most arguments blame can be cast on both sides.
It's also very difficult to argue with those that don't want to listen, again this can go both ways.
The poll results only speak for those who voted, like any statistics they can interpreted in many ways for whichever use serves, and unfortunately like most polls on KB are relatively meaningless.

But, as Maha posted - the poll seems to me to be more about judging Katman than his message, as seemingly do your comments.

I certainly wasn't directing my comments at you, and I see even in your earlier posts you admitted he had a point - and after all this is what this is all about isn't it?
Katman's impassioned beliefs rather than any personal issues you or others may have with him. I certainly don't agree with every single thing he says, but I do applaud him for trying to change some riders dangerous habits.

Compare what Katman says about personal responsibility and the whole stupid "cheesecutter" campaign which asks the authorities to stop using proven lane division systems that save lives because we cant stop our big ol bikes from crashing into them ... ffs

Yes, I've disagreed initially with some stuff which has made me think, which must have changed my approach

.... but I still support complaining about arsehole road users, including the biker kind.

Again is that a joke? Because you disagree it means some are voting as a pisstake? lol this gets better all the time! If that is in fact true, would it not be true that its the same in reverse? I bet if the votes were 70% in favour of Katman your story would be different. Mate the question has been asked & the results are there for all to see.

You have a lot to learn about conveying a message. The man will always be judged along side his message as it is as important as the message itself. Hence why hobo's aren't well regarded speakers on wealth creation.

If he could actually back up half of what he says in an intelligent debate (which is well documents against him) he might get a bit more respect. Until then his "Stone Deaf" award & current poll result speak volumes.
