OOOOOOOOowwwwwwww! Still got all your toes then? I know someone who did the same trick- lost a few toes and a bit of foot, didn't even notice till she tried to walk and it felt funny.

Like a couple of other posters I let this one ride, if you excuse the pun. I was tempted to go and look so that I would have some idea of the material but decided against that on the following grounds.

First the site is a bikers site and that initself indicates that this is an adult forum. Rave On is where a member can post non bike material where no rules apply and this is as it should be. Once you get into censorship, you get into moral values. Now there is a place for that but not here where ideas and opinions can be expounded on freely; along with some serious adult humour.

Now many here have kids and while it is up to them to see that they do not access an adult site this is easier said than done.

Not too sure if you have kids Biff but would you like them to see the picture that you posted?? The answer to that may answer your question.

I dunno... I didn't bother looking as I've been really busy and just plain didn't care to.

Yes, kids can access this site but I'll bed a rucksack full of P crazed possums that they could find similar in under 10 minutes with the average search engine. All security settings do is make them try a little harder...

So my opinion is.... This IS a motorcycle site and by definition trolled and populated by a certain type of person that maybe just lives a little closer to the edge than is the norm. Hence a bit more ribald content is expected.

Some images (like the KY one) have a little class about them and are funny. Lower down we get into tittilating and lower still... Smutty... Probably still all Ok as long as they have some quality, relevancy or humour...

Then we get into straight porn. There to do one thing...

Right at the bottom we have stuff thats just there to shock. It's not funny and so yes (I assume - didn't see it), you probably did cross the line here. To me it's right up there with pictures of corpses and child pornography because people are getting HURT. These people have families....

Perhaps acceptable smut is that in which the subject is obviously being paid for and is professionaly done. ie a posed shot of a good lookin' guy / girl draped over a hot bike at a show or something...

Unacceptable is stuff with potential victims. Ie, unwilling or unwitting subjects. Lets face it, it could be a brother or sister in a moment of weakness or dispair. Would you be happy if your wife had a serious accident went to A&E and someone whipped out the box brownie, put it on the net with some dumb arsed comment. "Hey look at this dumb bitch did" No you would not... Just because the victim is mentally disturbed does not make it OK.

If I go out with you guys, get pished and fall down in the street I'm sure some kind soul here will put up a picture the next day. Maybe OK (depending). But would you (say) strip one of our inebriated lady members topless, snap off a few piccies and put that up on KB? No of course NOT!

So there IS a line some place.

I'd suggest that you may have a foot on it, and that counts as out in this game...

Yes I do have kids, two of them. While only my lad is old enough and capable enough to switch on the PC and log onto the internet to surf his favourite sites, I like to think that I keep a close eye on what he's doing and which sites he's visiting, and I do. But then again he's only 5, so doesn't know the powers of Google - yet. I also have software on the PC capable of blocking sites containing suggestive material and specific sites (iprotectyou - it's free to download). As and when he is old enough to know about and be capable of searching for such sites then the onus of responsibility clearly lays with me to ensure that I take the necessary measures to protect him, and my daughter for that matter.

The internet is NOT the place to allow your kids free access to roam in my book. As a parent it is my duty to police their actions. But the reason I am somewhat ‘sensitive’ to some of the concerns, and the only reason I removed the image, is that I understand that some parents may be happy to allow their kids to roam here, as it’s a motorbike forum. Albeit that it contains scenes of nudity, swearing and general adult material. I for one would not let my kids access this site, at least until they are much, much older.

If your question is do I think he'd suffer any harm from seeing this kind of image, I guess the honest answer is I don't know. Would I want him to? No - nor porn, nor news sites containing gory photos of mutilated bodies in war torn countries and about a billion other web sites that contain ‘dodgy’ images. There's only so much cotton wool in the world, and to wrap each and every child up in it is impossible. But as a parent I do what I can to shield my kids from what the world has to offer, in terms of material likely to corrupt, or scar.

I don't find the answer in your question sorry Bernie. Your question simply opens up a much wider issue, an issue that parents will worry about for eternity I guess.

While I largely agree with what you've said Paul I must take issue with the above statement. There is no way on this planet that you can class the image I posted along with kiddie porn. Abusing children is an evil act conducted by a sick individual on an unsuspecting victim. This set of images on the other hand, if indeed they are genuine, is simply of a sick individual harming himself, there are no other victims. Unless that is you count those people that CHOOSE to look at the images.

As for images of corpses, I've seen some small video clips, possibly here, but certainly on other biking forums I frequent where the subject matter is of a dead biker, killed following a traffic accident. Serious question - would you prefer that we flatly refuse to accept these kinds of postings too? I for one never look at these images, I choose not to.

    Hi Biff Baff,
Although there were ample warnings (and so I didn't look) there are some images that appear on this site that I have no choice but to look at and that's what I find difficult. Mostly I'm referring to the soft porn images a lot of guys feel the need to display.

Thanks for asking and taking the opinions into account though.

No mate, Just using extreme examples to illustrate a point...

And I think, based on your response that I was 100% successful. One image you find OK and a bit of a laugh and another repulses you. ie - There is a line which you won't cross. The problem is, that line exisits in different places for us all...

If there were rules (and I'm NOT suggesting we have porn police) then for me it would be a subjective decision as to if someone was an unwilling victim in the item and would I be comfortable viewing it... Often, context comes into it.

To explain. If you posted a picture of a mutilated corpse of a loved one that (say) got half eaten by a wild bear I would find that offensive and un necessary.

If the same picture was presented at a symposium on preventing bear attacks to illustrate some behavioural point and maybe prevent it happening again. It would NOT (to me) be offensive.

    The line is very blurry...

For me (and I have worked in an Adult Supply store - I'm NOT against porn) I draw the line at pictures that I consider exploit, humiliate, embarrass or victimise the subject.

Kiddie porn falls into that (of course).... For me, pictures of mentally ill people that mutilate themselves also qualify, despite any warnings... (the Tom Scott cartoon today was iffy as well)

    Cheers

    Paul N

I did - and I love a bit of adult, constructive debate

But as the old addage goes, " different strokes ... for guys with ropes!"

As for your example of the use of a photo in the correct context, can I simply rename the thread, "what not to do with a sharp blade and your knob?"
