Lake Ferry Sunday 9th August

An Eastern excursion to the Wellywood hills via lunch at Lake Ferry. Return over Paekakariki. BP metro meet at 0930 but you know how timely we all are
I can only chase you part of the way due to work committments, unless anybody wants to be a surgeon for the day!!

Usual mix of sporties and cruisers, all speeds catered for. Had some bloody awesome rides recently so come and join us. Don't have to be club member to ride with us but there are lots of benefits I can personally vouch for

Quick update, thanks to the controlling influence of a mature woman I have had secured a small windfall and managed to pop in a pick up a new camera

Looking forward to take it out for a quick test over the Pahaitua track now alll ready for the run on sunday so wash your bikes, clean your leathers and get posing for me.

I always wondered what a Harley looked like when it was clean - now I know. That was one very shiny Road King. Something to aspire to perhaps?

So was I

Gave the blue beast a wash n polish til it was gleaming and headed out over the track in the late Friday afternnoon sunshine to try the camera out in anticipation

Met some interesting guys at the top then into woodville for some Yummy Mummys and up to the windfarm lookout. What a fab time to ride

I then spent an hour going to every bike shop in PN to try and get some Motul Scott Oiler oil with no success. Did find a nice 'blue' standy thingy for the soft ground :

Bumped into Brendan and Mrs at Supa Cheap when buying some new 'product' for the beast ,somebody was looking out for me.

Out and hopped on beast but when I went to start it there was a pathetic gurgle rather than the usual growl. Flat, having never bumped started a bike and terrified of yet another stationary drop I went in for club support and we had a go at bumping it with no joy. Loads of men in the carpark offered to help and a builder really gave his all but still to no avail.
A measure of the beauty that is the blue Daytona, he was drooling over it even though it wouldn't go. Apparently sold a green Daytona last year thinking he would take a break from bikes Now has a yellow Duc but I anticipate he will be back on a Triumph sooon.

Steve from the 4WD club lent us jump cables with a surge protector and we got it going but not for long. Brendan shot off for the club trailer and Horse came to share shortbread as we had been due to meet at Cuba at 5 and I was late!!!

The Blue Beast came home on a trailer again It must have heard mention of the Rimutakas, doesn't seem to want to go back that way since I got it. The voltmeter showed it wasn't charging when it was running.

Phil from Anza popped in today and we put the battery on charge and managed to start the bike but further checks identified the alternator as being a problem AGAIN. Only had it fixed in October. These 02's and their electrical issues are certainly teaching me plenty.

Off to Opunake next week/weekend when Kerry back from his Northland jaunt. I will post when I am going if anybody fancies a run and maybe bringing me back pillion.

Won't be on the ride tomorrow but will go to wave everybody off then perhaps a spot of brekkie on the way to the beach with the dogs and some gliding. Always a silver lining

I know I had promised CDMTC a trip to Greens Road but I had anticipated the traditional excess of alcohol, bikes on the lawn and being unable to stand the next day. Not the (slightly) more rare event of trailering the bike home

If you buy a cheap multimeter I have a printout with pretty easy to follow instructions on how to diagnose an electrical issue involving the battery/Reg Rec/Stator-Alternator assembly and which is actually dead.

You laminate it and tape in to the underside of the seat. That way when it dies, you can whip out the meter (calculator sized so stores in the tool area on the bike) and follwo the couple of instructions to test whats dead. Then you'll know:
a. what to ask for from the shop and,

b. if its even worth jump starting or killing yourself trying to crash start it.

Whole test takes about 30secs.

I'll put up a link to the site I got it off, when I had all the trouple with the Ninja, the Blade and the 675!

Quick look at a pony and a lovely play at the river with the dogs. Cuba for lunch and then tempted into a little black number Triumph of course when I popped into ANZA.

Lots of people in there milling around and the dogs got lots of cuddles

Thinking of a blast next saturday as we have first aid course sunday. Nice 300k loop Ashurst via P valley to Apiti Hunterville, Fordell valley, Turakina Valley and vinegar hill. Did it a couple of weeks ago and it was a mint ride with minimal striaght bits : Hope the bike will be back on form

Ok so this thread was about the Lake Ferry ride????, shall I actually participate to this and talk about the ride or shall I tell you how my weekend was socialising!!!!!
LAKE FERRY CD"S STYLE......What a fantastic day to pull the 14 out and know that this is my first virgin rider over the Rimatakas
we had a great turn out with some older club members joinging us in the sun we haven't seen these guys in a while so it was brill to cath up with them - Good on ya Camp mother and bro

Some new members too which is always good to see. we departed and had a pretty gentle ride over the track we re grouped a few times to wait for the cruisers to re join us. The road to Lake Ferry is a good one once you get off the main road.
We said goodbye to Camp Mother and Brent as they were heading off to catch up with other brother Blue in Wellys Get into Martinborough Gerball decides that the steel poking through his back tyre needs some attention .... NO SHIT so off he trundled back home. low and behold we pick up Luppy, Glenys and a mate from Wellys, who like ourselves were enjoying the glorious day so that was cool, off to Lake Ferry to a refuel with lunch and a few cleansing drinks
I did feel a bit sorry for Craig who ordered last and when he finally got his lunch threw that down his throat as we were thinking it was time to bail. anyways back on the road and wow this part of the country I had never been too, it reminds me of the south of the south island, (back of the lake up to Featherston) it was gorgeous. The roads were getting wetter with the shade and a tad bit narrower. We did get buzzed going down this very cool straight (that shit's me when riders do that especially with 15 or so bikes) bloody inconsiderate.
we get to Featherston and say goodbye to the Welly crew before we know it, I loving every corner that this fantstic hill has to offer.
As you can imagine the 14 packs a fair punch when Busted Twists the throttle so going around a lefty passing a car and a bike you can imagine that ...thank fark we put on new tyres
Anyway it was fantastic I had sooooo much fun, get to the top and Linda Blair and hubby where there went over to say hi and let the lads talk shit
Everybody kind of disappeared once we got to the end as the day was getting colder and the sun was fast setting so after a stop at Paekakariki we said our goodbyes. We did call into the Faye and Andy's for coffee and some home cooking - thanks darl you are a legend

All in all it was another great CD's ride and we had a great bunch of people which was prefect.
There were alot of bikes on the road and why not it was a great weekend to be on 2 wheels, so that's what actually happened, a wee story but that CD's
