Third in the championship Casey Stoner, winner at Donington for the past two seasons, fell from his Ducati in morning practice and again at the halfway mark of this afternoon's session.

The young Australian, who lost the front at the Melbourne Hairpin in the morning, tumbled at the McLeans right-hander while holding second behind Lorenzo halfway through qualifying.

Stoner looked to save a rear wobble on corner entry, but the front then crumbled as he tipped his Desmosedici into the turn. Stoner walked away unharmed but never looked fully comfortably thereafter, on what is thought to have been his spare bike.

Nevertheless, the #27 claimed a close fourth place on his last lap, 0.330sec behind Rossi's M1.

Awesome, really tight at the top unsurprisingly, pity to see Hayden back in the doldrums though but Toseland seems to have perked up wee bit, I emphasize a wee bit, be interesting to see if he keeps the ride a Tech 3 or moves on or back to Superbikes next season.

With all the emerging talent coming through, I struggle to see Toseland being kept by Tech 3 atleast. Who knows though. If Lorenzo shifts to Repsol, there will be an opening in the Yamaha camp. Spies? Who will get ditched in Honda - cant see them hanging Pedrosa out to dry but imagine Lorenzo and Pedrosa in the same camp. Hmmmmmm Happy times.

The rule didn't apply then. This is one of a series of new rules most of which are designed to lower the cost of competing in MotoGP. Less practice, less testing, and restrictions on the number of bikes per team.

According to the latest BIKE mag out here, a number of the GP riders have expressed disatisfaction with the new rules. Rossi is looking for a challenge after 2010 and a member of Rossi's pit crew has apparently stated words to the effect that they'd get half the money but double the enjoyment in WSBK.

Stoner has apparently already hinted that he would be just as happy piloting a WSBK Duc as a MotoGP bike.

Dorna may be in danger of strangling their cash cow?
