If you do this get two batteries and have them fully charged up overnight. Also get a jumpstart so that you don't drain the battery starting it. A short 6-8 lap race should be OK.
I had a similar issue when I fried the rectifier at Nationals this year and I could not get the Gixxer to last more than 13 laps around Pukekohe. The first indication of a problem is the instruments go blank or tach drops to zero. Electronics are quite sensitive to voltage drops.
