My Grandma used to say that! You should never give a knife or scissors as a gift. That's why the other person has to pay you for them - so they are no longer a gift. But then it means you didn't give her anything for her birthday!

Grandma's are happy with a phone call or a visit and a hug....
But for birthdays (as kid in the early 70's) one would make me a Golliwog and the other would give me some knitted slippers....

Not something you would now give to your wife as a present, ones now illegal and the other is just wrong.

I really did LOL at that... because right this very moment I am wearing a pair of slippers knitted for me for my birthday, by my partner's dear old Mum.

I wonder how impressed Mrs Cheese would be if her hubby learned to knit just so he could give her a pair of knitted slippers for her birthday?

Outdoorsey? Brand new Stihl Chainsaw (must be brand new), brushcutter, chipper/mulcher, forestry combined helmet (muffs, visor, lid), oscillating (the proper one) garden sprinkler, tramping backpack/boots/jacket, sea kayak, motorcycle, gym/pool membership.

Indoorsey? Kenwood chef mixer and a grand worth of attachments, wand blender, stone pizza oven, asian/other cooking classes, $500 quality knife set, "top mum" figurine for kitchen windowsill (do not underestimate this one), hand-made cards.

    Good luck.

"read what Steve says. He's right."
"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
    "Wow, Great advise there DB."
