My brother left for a few weeks in Canada (his wife is from there) and asked if he could leave his Subaru wagon with us. I said sure, but it will have to park out on the steet. Perhaps inevitably (in Avondale) it got stolen last week.
A couple of evenings ago there was a knock at the door and a nice young policeman said the car had been found around the corner in the next street. The odd thing about it is that to get it to where it was parked the thief would have had to either drive down our street, turn right, drive into Avondale, turn right again, up the street, turn right again, then almost all the way back to our place. Either that or they would have had to do two three-point turns in very narrow streets to end up with the car pointing back toward our place.
Choosing to look on the bright side of lifeI said to my partner that the thief had probably seen my Bro's wheelchair parking permit, realised the car belonged to someone in a wheelchair and decided to return it. Partner snorted and spluttered and told me not to be so naive.
Anyway, the ignition had been smashed and we couldn't get it to start using a screwdriver. I called hometune and the guy came out this morning and got it started - but he also pointed out that it was probably just as well we couldn't get it started the other day, because the brake line had been cut.
So someone steals a car, returns it almost back to where they stole it from, and the ONLY thing they do to it is cut a length out of the brake line? No parts missing, radio still in it, even a wheel brace still in the back... just no brakes. WTF??
