    Track temp data

I measured the ground temperature during the day of VMCC #3 and thought I should share the data. Please see attachment.

The ambient air temperature stayed more or less constant around 11 C during the day.
It 'felt' cooler at the end of the day, probably because the afternoon sea breeze.
Ground temp in sun went from ~10 to ~22. Around 2.30pm a cloud formation arrived and blocked the sun and temperature started to drop.
Ground temp in the shade stayed around ~8 C all day

I was also interested in the tyre temperature of the different areas of the tyre after a race.

    Rear:
    Left 45
    Middle 55
    Right 65

    Front
    Left 35
    Middle 45
    Right 55

    Pirelli Superbike Slick SC2 front/rear

Please note these tyre temps are not operating temperatures but shows the relative difference between left and right side coming back to the pits after sitting at the slip road for 30 seconds.
I'd guess the operating temp is around 80-90C?

There was 20 C difference between left and right side.

This is not a scientific test and the numbers should be treated as nothing but random numbers.

Wow that's interesting. Especially that the temperature varies so much from one side of the tyre to the other.

And that contributes to so many bins at splash, which is the first left hander after 4 rights.

There are many unknown factors to take into consideration.

I don't know if a tyre cools down in a linear rate for example. Both sides temp might be closer to each other during the actual race.

Splash is an interesting corner. It doesn't help that it is a cambered corner facing south and gets less sun either.
Although I don't think the few seconds one spend on that corner is enough to cool down the tyre by much.

Does it make sense that the layout of the track has a bigger impact on the tyre temps than the track temp itself?

Funny you say this Johan! I actually did a similar thing....mainly because my GF had scored one of those laser pointer temp gauge thingies and it was fun pointing it at shit to see what the temp was (most peoples forhead that day was no higher than 31 deg!...hehehe)...I found the ground temp out of the sun no higher than 8 deg all day! I didn't do my tires though.

When will we get the latest generation slicks with different compound on each side. They make ((soft, medium, very soft)) tyres now(mitchelin I think).
The tyre are flipable so will run both directions.Would be great for manfield but prob cost the earth.

Good stuff mate, wasn't too warm at 9.45 was it lol
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !
