    Gidday (Bender)

Hello KiwiBiker forumers. I'm an old fart returning to motorcycling after doing my OE and raising a family - the usual things that keep you off two wheels.

My biking days go back to when I was 15 and my father bought me a Honda CD 175 (can anyone tell me why these ugly pussers are considered classics?). This was followed by Suzuki T350 and then a Honda MT 250 Elsinore which was thrashed offroad and raced all over the North Island, an SL125 Honda and a CR 125 Honda (on which I got second in the North Shore MC Club's Hare & Hound race in Woodhill Forest in the mid 70s).

After a few years overseas I came back and did some enduros on a Suzuki PE 175 full floater but a ruptured cruciate ligament put an end to my enduro career and a houseful of babies kept it that way until now.

The new ride is a Yamaha TDM 850 which seems to, after plenty of research, be a reasonable compromise and fits my budget.

What I really wanted was a Honda RC45 but the last one that sold went for around 18,000 pounds in the UK and that would have stretched the budget a tad.

Bike arrives from down the line next week.

The only thing to ponder is what my wife will say when it arrives, given that she has utterly refused to let me have another bike, under threat of divorce.

Dunno what an RC is but take it slowly and put plenty of lights on, drive defensively and ... well just get out there and let the wind in your hair. From a Suzuki 50 stepthru wearing a ski jacket (bright orange) and a Shoei helmet, to a Kawasaki 175 Trail wearing motorcross sheepskin lined boots and an old Army great coat and a Shoei helmet, BIG BREAK - about 20years - to a HD Sporster S (thats a 1200 with twin discs), just the time spent riding has been enjoyable.
Maybe the wife will get on the back?? I did and I enjoyed it so much I acquiredmy own!

If you think a divorce is on the cards for buying a new bike - put it in someone else's name, then she can't take it off you.............. but they can LOL
