    Movie review thread.

A few fillums that I have seen over the last few days:

    Taxi To The Dark Side.
A documentary that follows one particular fellow after he gets picked up in Afghanistan, and dies in American Custody, turns out he was an innocent civilian. Focuses on the US's torture tactics, and legal squirming. Great watch, a real shame that this barbaric behaviour still goes on. 9/10

    Cleaner.
Sam L. Jackson (Yeah!) is a retired cop-come crime scene cleaner. Cleans out a Crime Scene that is an active homicide. Great story, a few good twists. Some good acting from Jackson and Eva Mendes. 7/10

    Conspiracy.
Val Kilmer (he's gotten quite large) is a wounded Marine vet who travels to a small town to investigate the disappearance of his friend. Thinly disguised attack on corporate America, and Halliburton, but a good story, with some disappointing acting. 7/10 for the story, 3/10 for the acting.

Just about to sit down and watch Vantage Point now.

    Planet Terror
If you have a sense of humour and like old 70's & 80's movies like escape from new york, or rodreiguzes (doh sp) other flicks like From Dusk till Dawn, or Desperado you'll love this! 9/10.

And it has a trailer for Machete which is worth the hire price in itself.

Planet Terror was cool, I was a little disappointed with Death Proof though.

    Vantage Point.
President of the US gets assassassassinaass(shot) during a speech in Spain, The story gets told from the point of view of 8 different people, with all the stories intertwining. Very good, some excellent acting (Forest Whittaker, Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox(, a brilliant car chase scene through the narrow, populated streets of Spain.

A great Thriller, worthy of any popcorn movie night. 9/10.

"People are stupid ... almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true ... they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so all are easier to fool." -- Wizard's First Rule

Yeah Death Proof started out really well with great dialogue between Kurt Russell and the girls in the bar then it went downhill from there. Anyone else cringe when you hear a Kiwi accent in an American film?

    The Assassination of Jesse James

Really enjoyed this film. A standout performance from Casey Affleck as coward Robert Ford. 9/10

    Jumper.
Rubbish. I dislike Hayden Christensen with a passion. The premise was cool, being able to teleport to any place you've been before . Some good action scenes, and great special effects helped out, but wooden actors (even Samuel L couldn't save this one) ultimately left it with a 4/10.

Disappointing. Rachael Bilson is cute as a button though.

3.10 To Yuma. Classic western destroyed by
the Rabitohs owner. Still I'm a western buff from Audy Murphy days and back a bit further too. And for those that adhere to the 'fact' that there are no bad westerns not a bad sorta yarn. And talking of movies see my latest Thread.

10/10 for me. Its saving private ryan gore with better camera skillz.

Only regret is that sly didnt kill more people.
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

I bought the boxset last week, and got around to watching the first two today, the Missus is at work, and the bike is having a service. What the hell else am I gonna do?

    Mad Max.
Amazing. An absolute cult classic. Wonder if Katman's seen it, what with it's depiction of motorcyclists as bloodthirsty rapists. A definite slow burner, but well worth it in the end. 8/10

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.
Mint. I liked this better than the first one, more action, more stunts, more boobs. 9/10

I quite agree. And I'd like to say, for the record, I am a bloodthirsty muthafucking post-apocalyptic punk. (in my imagination.)

There Will Be Blood: Watched it due to the rave reviews about a great movie. Want the 2 and a half hours of my life back! Very wierd, supposedly good acting but I don't really care about that. I thought it was just too long and boring, nothing really happens. One of "those" movies your 6th form english teacher would make you watch!

    Death Proof

Very Tarantinoesque, obviously made with Zoe in mind. Thoroughly enjoyed the latter half. If you liked the Dukes of Hazard as a kid, you'll love it.
