i listen to the national programme on radio nz, gets me through
the day with interesting news, bird calls, two book readings
(morn and arvo) and some good music too, second choice would
    be hauraki or solid gold

Change in tastes as I get older:

Mai FM -> ZM -> The Rock -> Life FM (am not even christian) & Classic Hits

For news there's National Radio & BBC on AM

I think Hauraki has a limited play list.
The morning Pirates keep it alive.

If they say...'coming up we have Led Zepplin/Uriah Heap and Van Halen, you could pretty get ready for 'Whole lotta love'/'Gypsy' and 'Panama'.

MoreFM probably the least amount of song per hour...too much yabba.

Radio NZ is the last bastion of 'proper' radio in this country.

No ads and (relatively well resourced) quality programming as others have said.

That said, community radio, B net (student radio) and low power stations are pretty close to what radio ought to be as well. Though I have a soft spot for George FM which, much to my chagrin, was recently gobbled by one head of the two-headed commercial radio monster

Radio should NOT be about selling things, and that's what all the stations on the list are about - 'tis why it's called commercial radio. Some are OK for short stints, but as soon as the ads or 'hilarious banter' come on I feel my blood pressure rise and I change back to something more sane (if I can - workplaces present difficulty)

Only one country in the OECD spends LESS on public broadcasting than NZ (The US). That's a pretty sad indictment on NZ. This fact is especially obvious when looking at TVNZ...

TVNZ is expected to make money. RNZ provides a national service. Spot the difference in quality.

The tory scoundrels in power now had better leave RNZ alone...I'd be the first to go militant if they fuck with it.

I hate DJ's,and breakfast ones are extra annoying.I prefer stations with as little DJ or add content. If I was given a choice it would be Coast...love the music too.

Over the years I've twiddled the dial looking for something special - there was a classic station called Cool 93 that was canned....then that frequency started to just play music alone, wow, great. Then Blakkie came on it was Solid Gold. There was also Cool Blue - just played jazz and blues with no DJ,and an online playlist....had that as my workshop station until it was stopped. Then came Coast....get some jazz and standards on the play list,so worth a listen to me.

National radio. I have peltor worktunes in my chainsaw helmet, listen to it all day, everything else is just noise.

They had some great black sabbath on today.

Radio "live", (because no reception) it gets channelled down via our own local area repeater!

Piss poor but no choice, talkback radio is depressing, NZ is sooooo full of "socialist" fuckwitts!

What chanel does Police use? It was around 75.9 Mhz wasn't it? How do you get it that low? I'd be a big fan of that radio station

If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.
