    Bad news about the car.

3rd party would have covered you.

If you like playing with cars, you'll love playing with bikes. Loads more you can do yourself.

Get some gear and some coaching to help you find your 'road feet'.

    Good luck,

Get your license ASAP! I wish i had got mine sooner. Even if you later decide you don't want a bike getting it sooner means you can upgrade sooner. 2 years on a 250 is a long time.

I am guessing you are mechanically minded so i would get a cheapish bike off trademe and fix it up if need be.

As for the question about pants...

I often wear jeans or my thick "grandpa pants" underneath. It is a tightish fit (textile motorcycle pants) but not uncomfortable and i am fairly sure they fit me fine without the extra layer underneath (would try but i can't seem to find them)

With the gear go and try it on. The sizes vary hugely from manufacturer to manufacturer and between models from the same brand. Intended use will also change this. I have small trou in leather and large trou in cordura from the same brand partly because I wear jeans under the cordura for riding to work. And then my jacket (same brand) is a big fat bastard size (XL).
With the bike you can buy second hand but make sure you get one in good condition. Can be hard to do but if you spend all your time and money patching up an unreliable lemon you will get pissed off with it in no time flat. Naked bikes are a good first choice, there is a reasonable chance that you will have some low speed fall overs at intersections and in the driveway etc and while sportbikes look great, fairings can be bloody expensive to repair if you have the misfortune to damage them.

oh yea the added benifets of other roadusers trying to kill you, the getting soaked in the rain, the lack of carrying capacity and that you cant leave a bike parked anywhere like you would a car they are great

    Sweet, sounds good.

Right now im trying to sort out getting the license and possibly a bike this weekend.... need to see what my bank says before i can get a bike.

Ive still been looking at bikes anyway... and i need some help. basically im torn between two bikes. One old, highish ks, but 250cc. the other new, low ks, but 150cc.

Heres the two bikes in question,

    150cc

    250cc
    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=231580023

I like the idea of the 150, due to it being nice and light, so easy to learn on.... but being 90ks, im thinking i might be too heavy for it, and thus it might be too slow.

The 250 looks like a very nice bike, and has more power (and cylinders), but weighs a little more, and is older.

Any ideas guys? Keep in mind i am a COMPLETE noob to bikes. Ridden a motorbike (dirtbike) once, and never hit full throttle or more than 2nd gear. lol

Thats a pretty mean bike, but i cant really afford to spend over 2k.... and youre asking more than that, plus it would need to be shipped.
