seems to be an issue with them, is it common or just lots of bad luck?

See here for the story on the black beast >> http://www.fxr150.co.nz/discussion/v....php?f=6&t=101 and we can talk after that, might even be keen for a trade in on the dead cb125

In this case the adjuster had unwound until just the rocker was hitting the valve putting side thrust onto it and it broke at the collet groove, normally they drop the heads off when they are continually over revved, beats me how K14 hasn't done one yet

Quiet, I am riding it this weekend! You're paying the bill if it stops working

As to the other CB125T that shat itself.....
Kick got it right, rogue adjuster went walkabout.
Unfortunately it's not just the valve. The stem seized in the guide as well (probably because of the side thrust) and the gear at the bottom of the clutch has half a tooth chipped off .... so
I'm looking for a new intake valve, and guide and a clutch basket - bugger.
On the bright side, she was going really well (until lap two!).

A guide is easy any decent automotive machine shop can make one, Cliff Bond made one for me a few years back when I did the same, Mike Jones or someone similar can probably rebuild the gear if you can't find a clutch basket

Ouch! - Actually, I'm with Dangerous on this. I've been doing these for 40 years and never had one come loose (and I aways go around them all when I have finished and give then another tighten and check).

As mentioned, I've been thinking that I will locktight them when I reassemble.

Kick - thanks for the comment re guide and gear.

What I meant was did you tighten them to the correct torque value, or like you say just go over them with a spanner and guess if they are tight enough.

Every bolt and fastener has a correct value, I bet Ray Clee uses a torque wrench on his motors. I think the main reason people dont bother is they dont own the tools.

heres a table of correct values for different grades of materials

Fair enough - I don't have a torque wrench for ring spanners , only sockets - so I guess your remark about correct tools is right on.
