Yeah it does get a bit crowded in the height of summer, ruins it a bit - much like the Coromandel now that the big city dwellers have discovered it.
Still a nice spot and you do have to watch out for that grit, especially as it's so well sign posted..... NOT!

Well, it's always about keeping your wits about you eh? Big city folk only come here for Dec 26 to Jan 30, so I just work through. Feb and Mar are sweet-as, weather not so hot, accommodation easier, roads cleaner and the cops scurry back to the main centres.

Yes indeedy....those 'wits' aren't as common as they used to be in some quarters, bit like common sense becoming more and more less common...

Still, mine have held up this long, hopefully they'll hang around a while longer (touch wood).
I generally avoid taking holidays over the Christmas period too, doesn't seem much like a holiday with crowds of people and all the extra fun police there to control them. Not to mention a lot of strangley clean vans parked up on the side of the road everywhere (keeping on topic...)

Why not just fuck with the entire system...

If everyone observed the speed limits for long enough to render the speed cameras unprofitable and then, once the police had cut their losses, went back to drive like sentient beings... how wonderful that would be.

C'mon, this IS New Zealand, populated by a fair percentage of ding-a-lings unable to unite in anything let alone remember to do something as cunning (simple?) as driving at or below the speed limit for any length of time.
