There was a few fast guys for sure but we had a better track to do it on and the tyres were not that far behind what we have now. I still havnt managed to do the times i did in the 80s - 90s but its not the bike , its the situation (im older) .
    I was doing 1.17s on the CBR6 and 1.19s on the NS 400 but i did 1.14s on the RC30 . Best time on the CBR400 (2005-2008 ) was a 20.8 , go figure.

Yea, never forget that..... Minefield 5 years ago was as bad as it gets.

Still, "back in those days" there was a real chance of getting an international ride, and those guys put everything on the line (just look at the names)

A good rider should still be able to do 8s on an RC30 I would imagine

I used White Power and the Super Adjuster i had was pretty good for the time really , but none of us really knew how to set them up prpoerly.

Mate , if Wally Campbell only managed a 1.07.95 (which is realllly close to a 1.08 ) then that made him a good rider then . The 30 was not really a good bike to race in stock frame form and we (my team) didnt have the budget to create the beast Honda Aussie had. An HRC kitted motor but stock frame actually made it hard to ride . I would love to know where the bike is now .
I dont think even a good rider would get better than a 1.10 now on a 30.
The rules in NZ was F1 in those days so the locals tended to have open classed machines and they had to borrow (or have a backup bike) for the WSB meetings etc so machine familarity was a challenge.
Eddie Kattenberg did ok one year on a private GSXr 750 but that was built overseas for him .

All this has been very interesting but bringing the WSB stuff into it has led us away from the point.
Pre 89 we used blunderbusses - big HP 1100's which didn't really handle like the later 750's. The only point in their favour was that they were stable enough to be controllable.
What will a worked 1100 with modern suspension do on modern Manfield ?

If Robert did a low 10 - may even have done a high 9 - on an 1100 on alcohol with std forks and a White power shock, 17in Marvics & Michelin slicks - what is achievable now on a legal pre 89.
