    Slightly pissed off

Wanting to tour south island on our bikes and becoming pissed of by the fact our dog is 'person non grata' in All the national parks And DOC campsites And most other campsites.
The National Trust in in England has a somewhat different approach where the main concern seems to be the wellfare of the dogs should they get lost or chased by farm animals.

Plus you can't take them in central Welly, on the buses or trains. Rant over

Welcome to the land of cotton wool and political assfuckery.

    Smells good, too.
Some people just can't seem to comprehend that they do not have the right to be unoffended in their lives.

Only if doc catch ya.When 3 of us did Matemateonga walkway(wanganui river trip)years ago a mate took his labrador, first day it went running and having fun, chased the odd goat, rabbit and almost tried pig finding. That night after a feed we kept him inside incase he wondered off, woke up to hear snoring, was the bloody dog,the owner found a piece of rope and tied him outside. Then the next 3 nights we had no dog to blame the snoring.

A little known point....where a main road travels through a National park, the road is on a road reserve and is not part of the park. Not sure of the actual width of the reserve, but I think it was in the order of 60 m either side of the road...you would need to check.

The upshot of this is, if you are camping on road reserve NP rules do not apply. Even if the DOC managed camp site is on road reserve.

The only exception is local council bylaws in certain areas.

What ever you chose to do, keeping the dog under control in the park areas would make sense....

Just put your best Ray Charles glasses on pretend you don't see anyone on the street and walk that doggy right onto the bus!

Seriously though I didn't realise you aren't supposed to take your dog into the CBD - better tell my workmates who insist I bring our pup in almost every Friday

I see the logic in banning dogs. Much of our native wildlife evolved with no predators, so can't fly or escape dogs and the "c" in DOC is for conservation.

Plus you never know the dog - if they let your nice dog in, they have to let all dogs in.
