As you climb out of the gorge heading north there's a wee slip road to the right. I shot up there (Feb 04) on a solo ride home from Methven. Couldn't resist stopping for a look, took several shots in both directions.

Looks like Lake Moeraki looking up the moeraki river valley, towards the east south east, 2.5 km past the moeraki hotel heading north, with mariners peak, rainy top and Ranganui prominant in the distance, taken about 2.30 pm in early Feb....?

Bout the same place I got nabbed....

Well done!! almost correct date but alas it was end of jan...heading up to the woodstock rally last yr. This yr it was too damn wet to get a fantastic view like that!!!!
