I care too. i got a fairly loud helmet, i would think that a bright and slightly detailed helmet would be more obvious than a plain white one..

I would think that a detailed helmet would fade into the background "clutter".

Plus of course, cops have white helmets - a friend of mine who rides a ex-Police BMW with a white helmet says that other road users are incredibly courteous to him when he's on it - to the point where they're nearly causing other crashes by giving way where technically they have right of way etc.

There's so many arguments in all directions about helmet and gear colour... Which is why i am going for loud pipes and more awareness/training , just because they can't see me doesn't mean i need to be in a place where that puts me at risk.

Lets face it ignorance and idiocy are the biggest threats on the road and a great portion of the people on the road are blissfully unaware that they are ignorant idiots. Staying out of harm's way is more important than teaching idiots how to see you on the road.

I have had a whole lot of people completely not see me on my hi-vis kwaka's. If fluorescent green doesn't help then how can a white helmet make any difference?

I know a white helmet is more visible but i don't reckon it would make allot of difference because people see threats more than colour, i.e. that bus thats road coloured is more obvious than that bike that has flashing neons.

    Get loud pipes!
You know that 70% thing is made up, tis the sweet irony of the whole sentence Nobody knows how many stats are made up. Thats the beauty of statistics, you can get away with anything.

The thing about what MB (andrew) has said is

"statistics say white helmets are 50% more visible" NOT that "statistics say that white helmets increase visibility of the motorcyclist".

It is like saying "statistics say apples are more green than oranges", that has no connection to the statement "apples make me more visible when walking down the street"

    Get it?

Nice try MB but that has no relevance to the argument at hand.

Mmmm calculus. I remember working on an equation once that took up an entire blackboard.

Made me feel like I was in a sci-fi movie, racing to save the world.

wouldn't doing everthing you can to decrease the odds of you not being seen still be a common sense measure to decrease your chances of being in an accident? basic stuff like road positioning etc!

and wtf!? your helmet has a bloody target on the back of it! how is that NOT a way to be seen

was in my road code, which would make it a LTSA (or whatever they're called now) statistic. I'll try find the source for you.

wtf? do you really expect me to rmember the exact wording?

I'll try find the exact wording for you - it may have been that white helmet wearers were 50% less likely to be knocked off their bike, which if the case i will check they investigated that riding style and plain white helmets may have a correlation

    now stop trolling, half-hat

Post hoc ergo propter hoc or something.

    correllation != causation.

Maybe it has nothing to do with helmet colour, maybe it is simply that people who buy white helmets are more likely to be concerned over safety and are therefore more cautious riders?

    Statistics... Gotta love em.

could've atleast trimmed some of the fat while you were repeating me

statistics on their own are useless. when presented as part of a report on an in depth analysis they can be invaluable.

I might mention, while riding with danae, she stood out far more with the white than black helmet. so there.
