Post their name, their picture and the car they drive.

With all the soft-cock sentences being handed out that's the least that can be done.

I await to hear the Privacy Commissioners "Reasonable Solution"

Reporter said the comissioner sounded confused!!!! Somethings not right - after doing this for 10 years, suddenly there's a privacy issue?

So now the Dominion Post have to actually go to court to learn who has been drunk driving. In other words they have to do their job.
They called it paradise, I don't know why.

"A large part of the concern seems to stem from changes to the practical arrangements by which this information is made available."
Something is amiss there. The cops don't roll over this easy on something that matters.

Once upon a time, in a land far far away.....

...name and shame was considered a tool to use both for discouraging certain activities and probably giving the victims a sense of satisfaction. Nowadays we all know that we mustn't do anything that might upset our sensitive offenders. Their rights must be considered at least as equally with those who have borne the brunt of their actions.

It would seem that the "making public" is by way of hearing the name(s) spoken in court. Even if the reporter is there and hears the details they're still not allowed to actually publish - i.e. if people want to know the "who" aspect they have to be there in court, reporters aren't going to be allowed to turn up to court then print what they hear. That's how I read it.

This is public information - the problem is that the police are compiling it - which anyone can do from the records. There is no issue with publishing the names of convicted criminals and that is what they are ... the issue appears to be with police providing the list. There is no real privacy issue as in the names are public anyway.

no no no -don't name them - that just embaraasses the family (who in my opinion do have a reasonable right to be left alone.

Anonymous is the way to go... put them in stocks... in Manners Mall, and pay fruit and veg places to supply surplus/rotting goods for high speed delivery to said fuckwits.
