    1993 ZXR250C - Cheap

    BIKE IS NOW SOLD

My 1993 zxr250C is up for sale, i'm nt going to let it go silly cheap, the only reason its up for sale is because i have run out of money to revin it and it is just gathering dust. well the second reason being bikes are not something i need in my life right now and my money is required elsewhere so it is best if it isn't there. but enough about that mre about ze bike!

It was written off by an insurance company because the front and left fairing were stuffed... these have been professionally repainted, personally i woud ad a couple of decals. cam chain has already been done along with tensioner etc etc

the swingarm has minor damage and will include a replacement swingarm with the sale of the bike...

genuine k's i have purchase invoice etc that you will need to get it revinned.

it may need new front discs they are right on 3.5mm which is the minimum thickness stamped on them...

a new set is $700 for both front discs quoted by mt eden mc's.

No time wasters. You can test ride it but it has no number plate so the onus is on you if you get pulled up.

obviously i will have to sight license and proof of funds prior to test riding.

bike also has a brand new tint screen.

Hmmm... mate of mine MAY been in a couple weeks time if it hasn't sold. Sitting his basic handling and skills test this Wed, would be a good bike for him to learn on.

It will also need a repair certificate, $350. Do you have before and after photos of the insurance write-off incident? If someone even breathes the words "frontal impact" they will require a strip and re-cert for the forks, and thats gunna be a grand.

Frame/brake cert if required is $160...(quoted by botany honda) i asked vtnz and they said probably not going to need it

it is written off as not economically viable vwith no mention of structural damage... and was a 30kph lowside

yes i have pictures of damage prior to repair.

    EDIT:

    links to pics of damage...

NOTE: THESE ARE PICS OF THE DAMAGE BEFORE IT WAS FIXED FAIRINGS HAVE SINCE BEEN PROFESSIONALLY PLASTIC WELDED AND RESPRAYED IN THE SAME COLOUR AS THE REST OF THE BIKE

As you can see very minor, insurance companys write off for pretty much anything it seems.

    Repaired and repainted fairing...

Well I just researched this process, because I was looking at buying a VERY low kms 2008 bike that had been written off by the insurance company.

I was told by VTNZ, in this case I MUST have a repair certificate ($350).

The forks had been repaired with new stanchions, but this was not acceptible to the repair certifier, and the forks would have to be replaced with new ones, or stripped and recertified. Accordingly, I walked away from the deal. It was a 5k bike going for 2k, and I deemed the risk to be too high.

You MIGHT get away without getting additional certifications, but I would be very surprised indeed if VTNZ will VIN it with no repair cert.

The pictures you have SHOULD be ok to persuade the repair certifier that there was no frontal impact.

Really, everyone including you, would be far better off to spend the money yourself and put the price up accordingly.

edit: A word to people contemplating repairing a insurance write-off - Talk to the repair certifier BEFORE you lift a finger.

I would be better to get it done myself, if i was in a financial position to do so, and if that was the case i would not be sellling it, but i have been put out of work and the toys are the first thing to go i have bills to pay ie rent.

I looked into it all PRIOR to buying the bike, the cost of the frame/brake certification is $160, i went into VTNZ and showed pictures etc and they said it shuld not need a repair cert and t put it trhrough revin and they would decide then but said very likely it would not as it is NOT a structural write off.

If they did want forks stripped and checked it is cheaper to replace them... $250 usually on trademe for a set, but as i say there is no fork damage

Even if it did need all you mention... it still works out cheaper by a long shot than any zxr in similar condition both dealer and private sale

Shit, weren't they trying to put more people on last week? Gutted.

Good luck with the sale. If those costs are right, someone would be getting a good bike for a little bit of work.

Yep all the work to the bike is done they just got to throw it through a revin really, i would myself if i had the funds, then ride it ... which was my origional intention.

    Cheers dude

Hmmm that first photo looks great. Should help with the sale. I guess I better assert my copyright and demand a share of the profits

Best photo I ever took of that bike.

Seriously, anyone who wants to know the history prior to SM getting it let me know (I had it from about 20,000km from memory). I did the crash damage so can explain what happened if you're interested and can also vouch for his mention of the cam chain tensioner being fixed and that the cam chain is mint.

Would be tempted to buy it back as a track bike but I want a F3 400 or bigger.

    You are kidding aye?

$3000 and it's not even vinned! Or even been for a check, so could fail miserably and be a 3 grand paper weight.

Is that what these things are worth? I got a dereg GSXR250 in the garage I might just take more interest in.
