Scooters to be represented at ACC/NZ Police/motorcycling reps' meetings

    Hey Dudes

There's been a suggestion that scooterists be represented at our meetings, at some level, whether it's a resource focus or at some meetings, or at ALL.

Concerning the lowering rider error incidents (of 34 Motorcycling fatalities last year - only 4 weren't rider error) which address ideas and concepts, regarding training, skills, publications, stats and safety gear issues.

The meetings in BOP involve Motorcyclists in our community, ACC, NZ Police, Rider Training.

    Here's what I replied:

I don't see why the scooter community couldn't be represented, Infact I really think they should.

My thoughts are that I'm not sure if they need to fit into the wider Motorcycling focus, because of the power and speed difference.

But then an understanding of how scooters affect general motorcycling stats, skill, training, and safety gear fit's into the wider group of Motorcycling.

Also I think a youth focus couldn't hurt, fresh ideas and viewpoints. Listening to youths can sometimes turn up wee gems.

I guess a good level headed scooterist, perhaps a youth (from a youth angle) and an adult?

    What's your thoughts guys?
And it would be good to hear from scooterists too!

Achievement is not always success while reputed failure often is. It is honest endeavor, persistent effort to do the best possible under any and all circumstances.

Much rather include than exclude. I see plenty of scooter riders. Some are still at school, some are very uncomfortable on their machines. I almost feel like pulling them over to help them out if the traffic permitted.

My $0.02 - go for it.

Thanks Hun! All 2 cents greatly appreciated!!!

That's what I figure too, sounds like there's an agreeance from the NZ Police Rep, I think ACC are willing to try anything, which is good!

Scooters represent a growing percentage of motorcycle ownership here in NZ so for them to be represented must be a good thing.I still won't wave to em though, specially not with the KB secret wave!

They should be represented... they are a target group afterall. (Just yesterday ACC had a stand out @ uni for them). Finding people who will represent them however...

Reaching the scooter population is a difficult one. They dont associate themselves with motorcyclists, how we ride, the gear we wear etc

    hehe...
I hope that scooter riders safety gear.... or, "lack of" comes up on the agenda. I am just flabbergasted at the amount of scooter riders that think a skirt, bare legs and a half faced helmet is adequate.

Could be a bit of a challenge, I don't think scooterers identify themselves as a community as much as bikers do, so it might be a bit of a task to find someone who speaks for their needs as a group. Potentially a biker who also scoots or who has a family member that does or something?

Yea mate, it does sound like it'll be a challenge, I guess all we can do is put it out there, if they're not represented, what can we do?
