Coppers have been involved with rugby clubs in NZ for decades.
If you don't like rugby, fair enough. But it is a great place to look for strong young males that at least show some signs of having ability to follow instructions. "Pass the ball" can translate into "Raid that gang house"
I'm no huge fan of the rozza's, but I am happy for them to select 100+kg recruits to help keep P heads and mongrel mob boys in check.
Would you prefer them to sponsor school boy glee clubs, and ballet classes?
I'm sure they would find heaps of physically capable young men there.

It still amazes me the hordes of people on here that call rugby players bum sniffing poofs. Funny, I never heard anyone call any past or present players that to their faces.

Heh Auckland port is not property speculation, its a business that makes decent profit for the council, and its not the only port that is owned by a local body.

I still dont see how sponsoring rugby makes a return to the police, I men playing rugby does not improve driver education, or reduce crime, in fact drunken rugby lads out on the town does the opposite, as for school level rugby well we can leave that one in the media.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

The tank farm will be developed as a development to increase the council coffers, (maybe if they do it right). That seems pretty speccy to me.
And 40k is quite well spent in bridging the the communication/respect gap with potentially future trouble makers(serious trouble, not drunk n disorderly). If they pick up some prime recruits, then thats a bonus. MHO

I do it anytime I feel like a fight at the local pub. The place is crawling with rugby homos most nights.

Beats "getting beaten up" by Auckland metro-sexuals. Atleast rugby homos don't slap.

Well, I find the premise of "the police" supporting anything bizarre. They are funded by the taxpayers of the country via the gvmt to provide a service. the taxpayer pays towards sports in other ways. I don't like the idea at all.

    Does the army sponsor sports?
