    Imagine it's 1948

    Many would have seen the 2nd pic,guy with big nuts heading to 151.313 mphThe Vincent was on display at Pebble beach concourse.

    yep, he wanted over the magic 150mph and couldn't get it with the drag in his leathers so stripped down to the togs.
    Rollie was the big cigar smoking character in the burt munro movie

    True or not i dunno but on his first run (apparently) his leathers started to come apart hence taking them off as you say.First run got him to 147 with flapping leathers.

    150 mph - 240kms per hour in your speedos That salt would be like 40 grit sandpaper if he fell off.

    heres a piccy of Marty Dickerson doing i think 147mph in leathers. He told me that he was frightened his pants [2 peice leathers] would be ripped off as you can see how the air hasmade a not very aerodynamic feature on his arse.
    They didn't come down and both Marty and Rollie Free were on the vincent brochure of the time

    So I'm presuming they sit on the bike normally and wring it out getting it into top gear, then somehow get into that position for the last 4-5 miles to get absolute top speed Hard case.

    So when you had the equivalent of the price of a house and you popped into Stevenage and said " Phil I want one one of your bikes bikes that do 150 MPH"

    Phil would say " yes they are certified to 150 MPH *
