they spend 40k a year on sponsorship
To stop rugby players becoming 'thugs', obviously.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.
Same reason they sponsor Rowing and other large school sports I guess.
They shouldn't be sponsoring anyone for fucks sake. They're under-resourced don't ya know!

Why do the NZ polce sponsor schoolboy rugby in Auckland?
It wouldn't have anything to do with the after-game showers, would it?
If the nz police didn't sponsor them, the catholic preists' would certainly be interested...
TOP QUOTE: “The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people’s money.”
Well they try to protect the community from crime, thus supporting it... Isn't supporting community sports fair enough?
Hang on, they what?, where does the info come from?
That cant be right, I thought their core business was the prevention of crime and the prosecution of law breakers with their limited funding coming from the general fund, Auckland is often in the news, (well what I view of it) saying there are not enough officers and resources in the area yet money can be wasted in this manner.
Dam sure 40k could be better spent in a manner to encourage crime prevention.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.
Community sports?
I'm part of the community and I fucking HATE rugby. So, no, it's not "fair enough". I also object to part of my rates going toward rugby fields and my ACC levies going toward fixing up dickheads who bash themselves and each other to bits every Saturday. They're a bunch of fucktards. Let rugby players be self funding and self insured.
Wankers.
I have no objection to my rates going towards sporting fields, community activities are all good but should in no way be limited to rugby or cricket there are plenty of sports that deserve funding and areas for their activity, the fact the funding in NZ is directed towards one or two sports is objectionable.
If a sport had to meet a fair contribution towards the costs of the injuries, it could certainly diminish the amount those of us who recreational activity's are unlikely to leave us in need of major hospital care have to pay, how ever in saying that, both times I have slipped a disc in my back it was in the garden.
Oh rugby fans, its a professional sport played by paid professionals not a war, when the AB's loose its not like you lost a family member, or lost you life or a limb, calm down it did not hurt you directly. its a game.
But that is off topic.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.
