Temet nosce (know thyself). Some people say Rossi is "mad" to do what he does, the risks etc...

$500 couldn't buy you a 4:43 slot on closeup. Well done.

To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded

So after all of the posturing and arguments to and fro we get this statement:

    "I got what I deserved"

I don't think I can remember seeing a bigger about face in history. I think back now to how all the stetments were made that he had "won" and that he was going to "get off" etc etc. Gee - I'll bet that judge went home last night licking his wounds and reflecting on how he didn't see that defence blindsiding him with an incredible argument! But instead a guilty plea and statements "I am happy with the result"!

If Carver had have fallen off the bridge on to pedestrians (one side - clearly seen on video) or the traffic (on the other) and killed someone he would currently be awaiting a manslaughter trial and his soon to be friend "bubba" would be licking his lips in anticipation!

Lets look at the arguments in his favour:

    1. Carver didn't fall off

True, but he clearly put several people at risk who did not get a choice as to whether they were being put at risk or not. There was no attempt to stop traffic or pedestrians. Just one other thing. Talk to a few tirals riders. Do you reckon you could find one that has never fallen off their bike?

    2. Carver is a good rider

True again. But there are no guarantees that falling off wouldn't happen. We are dealing with humans and machines here. Humans can make mistakes. Machines can do unexpected things.

    3. Other riders put people at risk by speeding, falling off etc

Ummmm... yes - maybe. But the difference was that this was a PLANNED event. Carver had done plenty of practice and knew when and where the event was going to happen. He knowingly put other people at risk.

    4. This is the "PC brigade" gone wrong!

Maybe so - but sometimes they are right! I don't think anyone would have a problem if the bridge was closed off and the only person to be put at risk was Carver. I would be joining in all the congratulatory messages in that case. It is a bit like protesting - do it as long as people can go about their lawful business and not be put at risk by your behaviour.

    5. Carver hates publicity

This should be the next Tui add. But I guess he is not THAT famous.

    6. He got off lightly

Ummm 28 days compulsory standdown. A conviction. A limited licence has severe restrictions on where and when you can drive - and that's only if he is successful in obtaining one.

    7. Carver is famous - it was worth it.

He now has a conviction and is potentially going to have to explain this to his futre employers for the rest of his life. Reckon that they will be impressed? I wouldn't be.

    8. Carver will get off

Guilty Plea? Statement - "I got what I deserved"

I will close with just one more piece of advice.

get another Lawyer to do your limited licence application!

    Hhehehe fair point. :-)

Of course that was done in controlled conditions with public kept away etc... I'm bloody amazed anyone can wheelie a bike as heavy as an ST! I have no doubt Carver could do it!
