    eek I am stuck!

I have a Suzuki GSXR 250 It wasnt' going, and I took it to a shop and then it was, then it wasn't so I got all spark plugs replaced so it worked again. I took it for a ride, parked it and it wouldn't start I tried a push start and it wouldn't turn over all it did was cause a big bruise on my leg and the back tyre to lock up.....I'm stuck!!!
How do I get it going again.

im not familiar with your type of bike but I know that with mine it is most likely the plugs fouling. When they do they come out looking like they have been dipped in oil. Over rich in this case for me. What do the plugs look like ??
post a pic of them and someone like motu (or frosty) will probably be able to tell you whats most likely going wrong.
(always pays to google any probs with just about anything first. If something can go wrong once then most likely it has gone wrong before for someone else)

it probably wont turn over unless its in neutral. have you checked the sidestand switch? when the sidestand is down it will stop the bike as soon as its put in gear. other than that fuel maybe? does it run for a while and stop? or is it simply refusing to start? does it turn the motor over? its hard to say whats up unless we hear more. theres also this kill switch thingy next to the starter button....

Which shop did you take it to? I had a GSXR250 a while back as well.

Have you looked at the battery? Sounds like it could be getting a bit old. Ask a shop for a second opinion by doing a charge test on the battery. It could also be the charging system and other various factors as well.

I'd say take it to Colemans Suzuki for a second opinion.

If you try to push start it and the back wheel locks up, try leaving it in gear and rocking it hard back and forward. And/or tap the edge of the starter motor with a screwdriver and hammer. Same thing happened to me ages ago on my GSXR250. A new battery definitely helped the prob tho.

My first bike was an '88 GSXR250. Caused me no end of problems with starting (especially if I left it for a few days).
Spark plugs fine - even took it to the shop and they could not explain.

If you are trying to push start though, try putting in second gear and coasting down a hill (be careful not to go too far though - I made the mistake once of coasting down a very long, very steep hill thinking it would start like it usually did - but this time it just resulted in a very long and tiring push back up the hill to home!!!)

    Sorry - not much help.

ps. are you the girl who usually rides an FXR150 and gets off at the Southern M'Way Grafton offramp by Uni in the mornings?

Sounds like your bike would be the ideal subject for the next auckland spanner evening...

When you say the bike won't start... Does the engine turn over and not fire or does nothing happen when you push the start button.

    Cheers

You raised a heap of questions that need answering to get an idea what the problem is.
The gsxr250 developed a whole bunch of "interesting' habits
First of all if you're having to bump start the bike i suspect you have a dud battery.Usually due to the cold.
What happens is that when the battery is low on charge it still turns the motor over but there aint enufff oomph to charge the coils and get the spark plugs sparking.
The result is that gas is getting sucked into the motor-no spark so the plugs get fouled with unburnt fuel.
Then ya try to bump start it and it just dont wanna know -pluggs too fouled up.
Another issue may be overtight valves which make for hard starting.
In the older gsxr250's the carb diaphrams are starting to crap out.
The coils are also a weak point in the gixxer.
Sorry if Im not answering ya question but i need feedback to get an idea

What part of town are you in? If you're anywhere near the shore I might be able to have a quick look.

If the battery is charged, and the starter motor won't turn the engine over, DO NOT EVER BUMP START IT. It could be hydrolocked, and bump starting it can bend crank shafts and conrods! Try taking out all the sparkies, put the kill switch on "kill" and hit the starter button. If it turns over and lots of petrol comes out it was hydrolocked! If it is the case you should fix the problem (leaky float valve in a carb most normal problem) and there might also have petrol in your sump, which means you'll have to go for an oil change as well.

I just did a complete rebuilt of a GSXR250. Been there and done that. With new spark plugs, bike starts great for a few times and then you can crank it over till kingdom come and it won't start. Spark plugs gets real sooty and wet. If you pesist on starting it, you will will find that the oil sump level goes up due to petrol seeping through the cylinders. I would say that you need to service the carbs.

    Solution:

Start all over again, new oil, new filter, new spark plugs (NGK iridium), check compression is within the limit (it was), serviced the carbs (by workshop), fully charged battery, check sparks is sparking like lightning, start engine, tune and balance carbs. Start first time every time now. There is no provision to turn the fuel tap off so if you have "leaky" fuel tap and you don't ride very often (I am weekend rider), there is a good chance that fuel will slowly drain into the carbs and ended up into the oil sump - very bad! I put an on/off tap between the fuel line so that I can to turn the fuel line off. Good luck.
