Str8's Round 4 - "The Quest for Balls"

Man, have these last 4 rounds dissapeared quickly or what?!

5am we picked up Deano as he insisted that he get there really early... Half way up there someone mentioned that we were doing the long track, lucy as I had forgotten!

I had one goal for Saturday and that was to HTFU and grow some balls. There are only reakly 2 things stopping me from going faster are they are my tendancy to 'drop the throttle' when I get a little bit uncomfortable and to not move off the bike. This time I decided that I was going to hold the throttle open on the corners I knew I was losing time on by being a wuss.

The day didn't start so well when we were the first class out and we had to attend another riders briefing that lasted until past our first call. This meant that I had to do the first lap rather slow to warm up the bike, in fact I wasn't the only one... Malcolm sat behind me the first lap and when he passed me I followed him comfortably for the whole 2 laps we had left... Bt of a bummer but I have been told that Vic Club are sorting this issue for next time. Malcolm confirmed that I was taking the right lines and that I looked pretty comfortable so I really only had my head to get sorted to go faster!
Any way I qualified with a 2.43 and I was lined up right behind Malcolm at the grid which was odd for both of us. I qualified 2nd to last or something equally as stink. I decided I should try for a 2.35.

    RACE 1

I had a stink start and wonder if maybe I fell asleep or something, then I realised that I had been staring at Malcolm's arse! I awoke to the first corner and people going everywhere, a young guy on a KR was trying some interesting racing moves by swinging from one side of the track to another then jamming on his brakes so that fucked me up alot. Ended up riding with Matt ??? from Hamilton. I got passed him at one point and then he totally out braked me at the next corner and got past me. It was awesome as I switched into race mode and cranked open the throttle. Although I didnt move off the bike I was scraping my boots all over the place and I managed to keep up with him but didn't quite manage to pass him, I managed to get a 2.36 which was alot more respectable and I knew that I had raced alot harder that time. I had been too polite during this race and braking to let people though and doing dumb shit like using the brakes too much. I knew I needed to HTFU for the next race!

    RACE 2

Had a better start but the crazy KR rider decided to try some funky start move that involved the bikes front wheel being off the ground while it wobbled furiously. Quite attention grabbing, maybe i'll blame him for my stink time... Got to the first corner and everyone bunched up in the inside so I moved to go around everyone on the outside. That would've worked if I hadn't had been looking in totally the worng place and I ended back up in the group. Ended up behind Matt and Jase W and followed them around a bit. Got past them once and then they passed me again. Then my big moment of the day, (lol) I came out of the sweeper right behind them both. We had all started moving to the left of the track but I noticed that I was gaining a little bit more speed than both pf them so I moved to the right and started moving past them. The first corner was coming up fast and I was still gaining speed but I really wanted to get past them. All of a sudden they started braking so I waited a little bit longer then when past both of them on the inside and managed to stay in front of them till the end without crashing. Fucken awesome fun!

I learn't alot this round. Like I can go really fast around just about all of those corners and that the bike is waaaay more stable when you hold the throttle open and keep opening it. So yeah, my quest continues!

Thanks to Vic CLub for running an awesome event, all my mates that helped me out and to my man Malcolm for putting up with me!

    Good shit !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

Once Malc's has finished cooking your eggs and putting a rosie glow on your cheeks, could you see if he has enough energy to put a report up? I want to see how the 650 experience was.

haha! He is in Upper Hutt working on bikes and I have just put his dinner in the microwave for the poor bastard! I am pretty sure that he will get a report up soon though. I have a feeling that this weekend may have triggered something very expensive in him. If you know what I mean....

Was it the new 'NABBS' lettering ? It certainly stands out - a nice touch.

From all accounts he absolutely lurved it. Ruined him for streetstocks apparently.
