On a recient european visit, browsing through bike shops, I found a range of rain gear to be worn over leathers...It was cordura type material, with a thin liner. No armour.
They would not pack as small and tight as the light nylon ones, but they did look much more robust.
They were around 200 euros. NZ400....
I have been looking through what is available online in NZ but no luck...should have bought the set when I had the chance.
Has anyone seen this sort of quality rain gear in NZ?

I've got some very good Motoline waterproof over trousers - they're nylon, treated with PVC on the inside, and seam-sealed. I dunno if you can still get them, but if I was in the market for some waterproof overgear, that's what I'd buy (there used to be a jacket available too). The pants folded up small, were easy to put on over leathers, and never leaked. I bought them a few years ago for $49.

Yes I know all that Nylon gear out there...I did see a taffeta? material suits in NZ....What I am looking for is top shelf oversuits....
Think along the lines of something you wish you were wearing when you finish the Rusty Nuts 10 000 km challenge after it was cold and it rained for 7 of the 10 days ...

To be pedantic Cordura is a type of Nylon (6,6) weave. The cheaper nylon rain gear is a tighter weave but sacrifices a lot of wear/tear resistance.
I have not seen Cordura over leather wear in NZ but mates have gone to these guys.

Not cheap but 1 guy has had his Roadcrafter for 10 years and it still looks like new.
I think you can get them custom made eg without armour or linings.

Have a look at the Motomail website. I can personally recommend the Revit H20 shell for the price. Easy to pack down and Very waterproof

Out of curiousity, why would you care if your rain gear was more or less wear/tear resistant?
I dont mean to sound like a dick, but I buy my motorcycle gear to protect me first and formost. Then I buy a rain suit to keep my dry and comfitable on wet days.

Wear and tear resistant to me id duribility...Worn for many days in inclemint weather....Long tours in any conditions.
I have a set of leathers and a set of dri rider gear....but prefer the leathers and would like something really durable and a little heavier than the normal light rain suits
