It's official! I'm a mutant! XS helmet too big!

The Nolan - that's the other helmet I was thinking of that I tried on. One day, I tried on an Arai Corsair (very comfy, but expensive), an HJC, and a Nolan. I wanted to like the Nolan, but there was some very small inconsistency in the padding behind my left ear - after a few seconds, it hurt like hell! Strangely, when I took it off, I couldn't find out what it was - perhaps some flaw in the liner, a fold in the padding, or something.

The I tried on the Shoei XR1000, and it was SO comfy!

Best bit was it was on special, and not much more than half the price of the Arai, AND it matched my bike's paint exactly!

In that case you should be better suited to the Arai Viper GT as opposed to the Corsair. The Corsair is "Relaxed Round Oval" in shape whereas the Viper is the "Long Oval".

Thanks for the offer Fenry but the xs Shoei appears to be too small. Already explored that as an option.

I think I'll pop down to the other bike shop in my area today and see if I can do some more trying on.

I got a M and it fitted snug it was.

Then I got an XXL haircut, and it was looser than an...unsafely loose helmet.

Woe be me.

Then winter came very shortly and even more woesome was my newly shorn head.
ut themn my hoodie came, accompanied by its hood .
When the hoodie hood went into helmet helm, snug did the helmet become once again.

And the people in my head (or their voices at least...) rejoiced.

My missus had the same problem - XS HJC was too big, medium youth HJC was ok-ish but not quite right. She ended up getting an XS Givi, seems to be an excellent fit for her.

Arrrrrggggghhhhh. The hunt continues! tried on an xs Shoei today but it was waaaay too tight!

It was good to check the size anyway. Siiiigh. So they're gonna try getting some bigger cheek pads and see if that works.

Still waiting for another possible HJC helmet. Might need to give the central Wellington shops and see if they have anything else.

The Shark doesn't fit either and neither did the AGV. What's a gal to do???

Sorry to hear that you haven't found anything yet. Keep trying lots of different brands, you will find one eventually that fits nicely. I am still biased to the Arai though because of the option of changing the internal pads to make it fit, if needed (I didn’t need to in the end). Having said that, cost was irrelevant in my case (after the headaches my shoei gave me), I found what fitted and that’s all that mattered to me.
