    What a classic.

Read this headline in todays Taranaki Daily News.

A drunk driver put 10 people's lives at risk when she ploughed into the back of a car stopped at a police checkpoint in New Plymouth early yesterday.

The woman, who was also disqualified from driving, was one of 11 drivers five females and six males caught behind the wheel around the city from Saturday night to Sunday morning.

The 31-year-old who had a breath alcohol level of 1786 micrograms, more than four times the legal limit of 400mcg, slammed into the stationary vehicle on Northgate about 12.20am.

Also the Daily Snews report about a lady who was missing for 3 days and found dead in her car in Sth Taranki rural road over weekend tends to piss me off.Seems the local area commander Inspector Frank Grant is a little paranoid, the amount of fatals in the region due to speed or alcohol is bad he said.
He waffled on and then the paper reports the serious crash unit has yet to determine the cause of death.Imagine the lady's family reading this, here is Inspector prattling on about alcohol and speed insinuating this is the cause, yet the crash unit has yet to determine the cause.Wish this guy would get an idea when he says this crap, some people might take his word as being in the know, and reporter might ask if he knows the cause of accident. No I don't know the victim(haven't released her name, and only read digital copy).

Know a couple of cops round here, seems we have a high drink drive rate, especially in rural area's. I spose they want to scare people away from drink driving, cant say as I blame them, cops must see some pretty gruesome stuff, but this one may well be upsetting family of the deceased if he hasnt got his facts straight.

yep remember drinking at some of the Naki country pubs, in the 80s, the biggest problem wasn't worring about the cops, but where the ute had parked its self.
But if you figure out how many Km's of road you have in the Naki, then divde that by the number of cops in the Naki, then ya get an idea of how rear it is to see a cop in the sticks on a saturday night, who is looking for drink drivers.

    But wait there's more!

The woman accused of being so drunk she crashed into a car at a police checkpoint had been out of jail only three weeks after serving a sentence for drunk driving.

Police allege she was driving with an alcohol reading of 1786 micrograms, more than four times over the legal limit, when she slammed into the back of a stationary car at New Plymouth's Northgate intersection about 12.20am on Sunday.

She had three passengers in her van at the time, is accused of narrowly missing four police officers before she crashed into the car carrying three passengers. No one was seriously hurt in the collision.

Police opposed Her bail application, with Sergeant Craig Jones saying while there were no fears she would not turn up to court for her next appearance, there were fears she would drive drunk again.

It was then revealed that she had been released from jail only on August 6 after serving a sentence of two months for repeated drink driving. She has been caught drink driving six times in the past nine years.

Just read the update in todays digital edition, wtf.

Also agree with comments re drinking around the Naki,as guys playing sport we'd have a few after the game, then head home from NP,Waitara to Hawera. We felt ok to do so,sure maybe the driver was not as pissed as passengers but he still had a couple or three. The Tariki pub was classic a few busses and cars in those days.

Ah the Tariki, Midhirst and Stoney River Hotels. Verrry good stop off's on the way back from playing Rugby... luckily on a bus and no way I couldve driven, my team mates were drinking beasts.

So they haven't found out whether that lady who died was drinking or not... but the write up in the Paper on the serial drink driver is bad enough. She's driving a loaded gun, and one day she'll kill some-one. Some people shouldnt drink fullstop. I believe there's many, many more stories like this than we hear about. I put money on the fact she will be tested soon and fail, seeing as the cops can test her whenever they like, even at home. Beast.

Yep we'll have the dogooders say she has an illness, can't argue that point, but she has no excuse to drive that pissed, hell why the hell get in with her in first place.

The good ol round the mountain pub crawl,we even incorporated Okaiawa,Kaponga and Toko.Start at Hawera(Railway Tavern at 9.00am) -Hawera(Dominion pub final) in 14 hours priceless. We started with a jug and 200ml glasses, ratio 1 jug -4 of us.Didn't seem like much to start, but by the time leaving at NP were getting pissed, then started drinking more jugs lol.
