    High Kiwi wages obviously mean nobody over here could produce bodywork at a competitive price

    Any prices yet on the 'school days'? Own bikes or otherwise?

    The California Superbike School will be $429 per day. One day is one level of which there are 4. Everybody starts at level 1 and if they want to they can keep on going from there.
    Hire bikes are available if you wish at an additional $349 per day.
    Every motorcycle handles perfectly. Then the rider gets on.

    i'm interested, Is there a breakdown of what each level entails?
    When you say "everybody" starts at level one, does that include God-like top level racers?
    How much is the insurance?
    Is gear included with the hire bikes or is that extra?
    Is the tyre wall after that loooooong downhill straight that's right next to the corner in the photos permanent or will they'll replace it with a lovely uphill (Cadwell park style) run-off?

    LAST BUT NOT LEAST
    Is there a choice of rubber?

    Best place for a breakdown of levels is www.superbikeschool.com
    Everybody means everybody.
    Insurance is $375 for the day.
    Gear hire is extra. $75 for the day for Arai helmet, Teknic leathers and Alpinestar boots and gloves. A $500 excess applies to gear hire.
    The photos that we did the other day are all looking reverse direction and the tyre wall is permanent. Cadwell has zero run off on half the track with the armco on the edge, I know as I hit it. The rest is wide open but it needs to be as the track is about 4 meters wide. This track is 12 meters wide at its narrowest and 25 meters wide at its widest. No comparison really.
    Just remember that you go where you look. Look at tyre wall, say hello to tyre wall.
    Rubber choices. Yup. You can have black Dunlop Qualifiers or black Dunlop Qualifiers. I suggest the Qualifiers.
    I hope this helps.

    Just a few sums in the early morning hazey fug that is my brain at the moment:

    Cost of the day = $430
    Bike hire = $350
    Insurance = $375
    Gear hire =$75
    Total for the day $840

    Fall off and there is an additional;
    Bike excess = $1000
    Gear excess = $500

    New total for the day = $2340

    If you didnt take the insurance option for the bike and fall off;

    Total for your day = $5465

    Wow!!!

    I'll check again in another couple of cups of coffee's time.

    Walks away shaking his head.

    Brilliant! When are the training days starting.
    Wouldn't be racing if it wasn't for:MotoMart, Pirelli, EBC Brakes, Ripecoffee.co.nz, Slotmedia.co.nz, Totalbodyshop.co.nz and Wurth

    When you think about it, that's a really good deal.

    You can pay $70 for a novice day (or what ever they are now days) and sure, you can go "round and round", but really, not learn too much. It sounds like money well spent.

    great gift for Fathers day birthday etc.....

    The school will be running on the 19th and 20th of November.
    You can do one day or two days it is up to you.
    We will be running Level 1 at every school.

    After November the next schools will be at the end of January and then again in March.

    Ya gotta laugh at the folks knockin' these prices.

    Just ask yourself a few questions:

    Why are the punters hiring a bike? They either 1. aren't confident using their own bike/gear, or 2. don't own a suitable bike/gear, neither of which would fill me with confidence if I was hiring a bike to 'em.

    What does it cost to run a bike for a track day? Oil and filter change every 2 days, tyres every 3-5 days, pads, fuel, general wear and tear, accelerated major servicing (valve clearances etc) etc

    What would YOU charge for a stranger to do a full trackday on YOUR $20k bike?

    At the end of the day it is a business venture not a public service. From all reports though it's a brilliant experience and nothing else comes close, not in NZ anyway.

    Would you be any cheaper buying your own top notch bike and gear before falling off it at the track? Bear in mind there's fuel, tyres, wear and tear on the bike, instructors (and their bikes) expenses and track hireage. I guess as they're a business they're allowed to make a little bit of profit too.

    For someone who's thinking about dipping their toes into racing or just wants to go faster "safely" (who maybe doesn't want to risk their own bike or doesn't have a suitable bike) then it seems VERY reasonable to me. Bear in mind that you can literally turn up and ride without having to shag about with vans, trailers, tyre warmers, paddock stands, etc etc. From what I've read it's one to one tuition.
