"Here is a tip for all you folks who hate riding in the wind because it feels like you are getting pushed around. Well, the wind IS pushing you around and it is telling you something. It is saying: Yo! what are you doing? Why are you hanging on to the handlebars with a death grip? Why is your body so stiff? learn to ride properly or I will huff and puff and push you off the road!

If you have problems with riding in wind you can easily solve them. Just use your thighs and knees to keep yourself stable on the bike and use your hands to steer, brake and accelerate, NOT support your body while you are riding. Imagine you are holding valuable and fragile teacups in your hands. Do this and you won't even notice the wind anymore... "

The wind I can deal with. The rain I just don't like.
The wind in itself is something we all need to learn to deal with. What I dont like is when you get shunted uncontrollably into the other side of the road by an extraordinarily large gust coming from an unexpected direction. The one where you have absolutely no control over the direction your bike is about to take. Thats the wind i hate. But what you have said above is spot on. Wind and corners, - its all about relaxed body especially arms.

Yep the unexpected direction is nasty but the bit I really hate is in the wind funnels in the CBD, stop at the lights take off and as you clear the building line its sideways time, and you haven't got much pace on for control. yuk

well take note of those spots and use your eyes when you are in the country. You can use the topography and the effect of the wind on the vegetation to judge the effect of the wind in the few hundred metres ahead. You will learn where in welly the wind funnels through. If you do get pushed countteer immediately to correct but be aware you may have to correct again...bewate of oncoming trucks etc esp when there is a strong side wind. You will suddenly be sheltered from the wind, and then exposed to its full force PLUS buffeting as the truck passes.

Correction - If it is blowing a gale and misty, only ONE person turns up. Namely Hawkeye.

Turned up tonight to find the car park empty
Ok my clock said 6:31pm . Never passed them over Haywards or on SH2 going to the duck pond. Head to the Parrot. No sign of any bikes. Back over Haywards, round Greys Rd. Out to Mana. No sign of bikes at either of the bars there.

So here I am, at home, bar open .

    Hawkeye - no mates.
I'm only wearing black until they develop something darker

We came, We listened, And in one voice we answered

Well, we waited for you...till 6.30...then headed over to Wainuiomata beach....

one thing I can say for the welly crew....what a poor showing. I was expecting at least 20 bikes but in all I think it was ten or eleven....Nice to put some names to faces...

The CHCH crew had 35 tonight apparently....and the south island weather looked so much better than Welly....

What is it with pedestrian crossings at the apex of a corner??? Remind me again...why the hell did I come back up?
