Wow they really mean northerly gale! Rode home just before and i was all over the show on the little GN, took the back roads through johnsonville, tawa and porirua so i didnt end up roadkill!

Sorry, maybe when i get a more stable bike i'll be able to brave winds like this, but till then... maybe next week

On the way to work this morning through the city was a challenge. Every time I would ride past a side street you'd get hit with a huge gust that shoved ya a good meter to the side. Lucky I wanted to get into the far right lane

I'm afraid I won't be able to make it tonight as I have to work until 6, doh! I'll drive the route over the weekend and make sure I'll be ok on the bike and hopefully swap shifts for next week, have fun tonight guys

Bend ya elbows, stop gripping the bars like your life depends on it...you will only lean a littel if you get that sorted as opossed to the force of your stiff arms causing the bike to steer (learned that here in the Survival Skills topics)

Loose arms in the wind and no pushy pushy (or less I should say)

Yeah, but your bike on its own probably weighs more than me and my bike combined, feels scary knowing theres little over 200kgs holding my wheels on the ground!

wasn't until I started paying attention to counter stearing that i realised when there was a gust id tighten my grip, usualy more on the side the gust was coming from, this actualy made me move away from the gust, I used to think my bike was just crap in the wind, now I dont have a problem with it

Driving can be be deceptive. A route that is a bit of a pain to drive in a car can be very different and a lot of fun on the bike.

Cheers everyone for your support with these meetings. The great news is that it seems the BEARs name is currently being revived allover the North Islands race scene. I hope our meetings were of some contribution

Big ups to all the race clubs who are offering, or considering offering the BEARs class for up and coming rounds.

With summer on the way, other commitments and daylight saving meaning most would rather have bums on bikes rather than bar stools, I will discontinue running these meetings for now. If anyone wishes to continue running them, do please feel free.

It is saying: Yo! what are you doing? Why are you hanging on to the handlebars with a death grip? Why is your body so stiff? learn to ride properly or I will huff and puff and push you off the road!

If you have problems with riding in wind you can easily solve them. Just use your thighs and knees to keep yourself stable on the bike and use your hands to steer, brake and accelerate, NOT support your body while you are riding. Cold was this mornings job -25, repairing the doors on a blast freezer while it was running.

Used to ride a little single pot CBX250rs into Welly everyday. About $150 kg wet. That thing used to move in the wind until I released the death grip.
