    Moto Guzzi brake discs

I am trying to source some replacement discs for my Guzzi California III - 2@300mm dia and one 270mm dia. They are cast iron floaters, and the mentality over here has become "if it wasn't made specifically for it it's not suitable"
Questions - anyone in NZ likely to carry stock discs?
anyone ever cut their own replacements? (and, if so,what material?
even the bobbins are £10 ($25) EACH !!!!

    About $800-$1100 NZD

    Scary!

They are available right back to the 70's for big twins, it's the (prone to warping) small block owners that should be really nervous, they are unobtainium for some models.

I have never let a good set of discs slip through my hands, that and the crownwheel in the diff are possibly the two biggest shocks to face any long term Guzzi owner...

Found a place that does replacement discs!!!

    www.allbikeengineering.co.uk

set of three for about £220 ($550) - don't know what they would charge to ship out to NZ, though.

As they are not OEM, what do LTNZ etc. think of them?

LTNZ / wof inspectors will have no idea whether a disc is oem or not.
There are plenty of aftermarket discs for sale here, as long as they are the same dimensions I can't see an issue. They will still need to pass the braking test for a wof.

I have EBC discs on my bike btw.

    For a WOF, no trouble.

For compliancing and certification, only slightly more trouble.

For disc rotors all you will require is a photocopy of the catalogue page (from your supplier) that proves that the part number you have fitted to your vehicle is designed for that application. No biggy

For the disc pads you will require a document that states that the friction material is suitable for the application, and that the part number fitted is designed for that application (again a photocopy of the catalogue reference is sufficient).

The suitability of the friction material document isn't a biggy... just find who imports that brand locally and have them supply that document (it's just a form letter, you won't be the first to ask for one so they'll just pluck on from the shelf, fill in the blanks, and sign it).

If you can't get that from them (because they're idiots, lazy, whatever), then you can buy your pads from someone who deals with those matters on a regular basis, such as a member of the New Zealand Brake and Clutch Specialists Association. In reality all that they will do is buy a well known brand of pads like Vesrah from Darbis or similar, fill in their standard friction lining certification document they use, and send you on your way, easy peasy (that document will have some numbers on it to keep the compliance guy happy, plus it 'passes the buck' should they prove unsuitable).

Since the tightening of compliancing about 10 years ago, it's all standard practice, you should have no trouble with any of this.

imdying - thanks very much for that - I should be able to source those documents easily, now that I know which ones I need

Will be fitting new pads to the new discs anyway, - what makes are generally available in NZ? ( that way I can make sure I have the right piece of paper!)

Have now just ordered new discs - £60 each plus post & Packing.
Read some good reports on UK Guzzi club site, so hopefully should be OK.
Bike should be arriving in NZ (Hamilton) mid-late January, so will be looking for ride-outs etc in Feb.
I should be arriving early December, so will probably try to find people before my bikes arrive.
Clubs / meeting places info appreciated.
