I'm on XT, and haven't had any issues with it.
Best thing is, you can buy any phone to use on Telecom now. Since they run sim cards.
XT sucks in places,my daughter has her old 027,her flatmate has new XT phone, her flatmate can't recieve calls in their flat, yet the 027 is fine.House is in Palmy.Maybe quality of phone, but I doubt it daughters' phone is $200.
Hello officer put it on my tab
Don't steal the government hates competition.
My missus got given one of these phones by telecom, and switched to the XT network.
The network seems ok, although I am on the CDMA, and sending messages takes a while, and you cant pixt each other.
Also, the music shop dosent work.
However, she absolutely hates the R6 phone.
Small buttons make texting an issue, and the phone itself is tinny and plasticy.
She hates the ringtones, well, she hates the phone, and after were married at the end of the year, the next thing that we will be buying is a new phone.
Cheers,
Mike
Telcom built their own network years ago and it was difficult for a while to get phones with to take advantage of all the gizmo's
Since the competition BellSouth, Vodafone, 2go (and few others past and present) and they are all using networks that other countries use making there phones compatible over the world. Hence if you had a Telecom phone and were going over seas you had to go in to Telecom dealer and the would tweak your phone for the overseas network. (not so bad now)
The new XT Network is more compatible with the rest of the world. And the old Network will be switched off in 2011 (apparently)
Is it any better and have as much coverage as the old network... debatable, various things will be better in built up areas, faster, more reliableand more services on the new network. But in some area as they slow replace parts and cables and dishes and upgrade exchanges here and there it won't be any better...
or something like that![]()
I only use a phone for texting and making calls, the one I have currently has internet and camera etc, but dont use either of those options at all.
I was sure they said the coverage was better, which was only reason I said ''yeah ok'', I have seven days to return it if I dont like it.
Figure out the camera, bro. Its bloody great having a camera in your pocket all day. Next time you find yourself saying "haha, thats cool.." pull ur phone out and shoot a photo of it.
Nah the best thing is, anyone can ditch telecunt and swap to another service provider in just a few minutes.

"read what Steve says. He's right."
"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
"Wow, Great advise there DB."

Be careful mate, the phone may be offered free but how long are you contracted to have it connected for? The important thing people don't realise is that a call plan and a contract are two different things. The call plan is what you pay to use it, the contract is how long you've agreed to stay on that call plan. Its worth it to the mobile carrier to offer free phones cause the customer agrees to say connected to their call plan for x months (Paying X dollars) and if you disconnect early you pay an early termination fee. Reason I point this out is that I've heard both voda and telecom offering "free" phones on 36 month contracts and that is bloody excessive, most phones only last about 2 years. If they haven't told you then you should check.
Works out OK for most but if your phone breaks or is stolen in contract you then have to shell out full price for a replacement phone or pay out your contract so read the fine print.
XT network not too bad but coverage is only about the same as CDMA. I don't believe its any better. Data speed however is freakin awesome but if your just using your phone for normal phone stuff you won't notice.
Sorry knee jerk reaction as I've been in telecommunications for sixteen years (9 with Telecom) and I consider the whole "free" phone thing a bit of a have.

XT can do a massive fucking advertising campaign with Richard Hammond & Zoe Bell getting dropped into the ocean in a shipping container...
But I can't get reception on top of the Rimutaka Hill. It has revolutionized my cellular world. Yeah.
Good man, eyes wide open. Sorry if it sounded a bit patronising (I just read it again and thought I came off like pompous twat) but you wouldn't believe the very intelligent people who get dazzled by the words free phone.
As long as your aware of what its all about it can be a really good thing to get a freebie for loyalty. What you pay for a prepaid mobile is close to what that mobile is worth cost price.

tl;dr rest of posts
My mum gave me her R6, didn't use it at all. I just lold that it has the same name as a bike.
I much prefer nokia tbh. When you recieve a message on the R6 you have to go options>reply>text message instead of just a straight "reply". I use predictive and it's ok. But if you need to change a word and put punctuation after it (eg, me -> of,) it changes the word back as soon as you hit punctuation. If you hold down the erase (c) button too long it erases your whole message.
It comes with software that you use to connect with the phone and edit the calender etc. I use a micro SD card and have pictures saved on there. I'm sure there's a way to easily transfer them over but I haven't found it yet.
If only it had the easiness of use that nokias have then it would be pretty good.
However still fairly easy to use and I can't look a gift horse in the mouth, so it'll do fine.
my flatmate got the r6 phone when they 1st came out, its a piece of shit and telecom knows it and has given him a nokia on the old network while they try and sort there shit out
MFSC lives on!
I'm not sure if Telecom has it, but Vodafone has a $10 a month (from memory) phone insurance plan. Anything happens to it, you get it replaced.
Not worth it on small phones, but my client's phones are all $900 - $1100 worth... Some of them have a habit of closing them in car doors, drowning them etc![]()
