    Arts funding?

Serious question! I have just seen a story about a pile of rubbish being awarded an arts prize of $15k at the Hamilton Museum. This is not about saying I could stack a pile of rubbish and do it better.

I have a very different idea for an art installation that I think will be quite striking and pretty popular too. What I'd like to know is - How do I apply for funding to bring it to fruition? Who do I make an application to and what is the process? Anyone know about this sort of thing? This is actually a serious question so I will not be disclosing my idea to anyone.

I'd start at the nearest art gallery or museum for that kind of info ... also the nearest tertiary institution that runs an art course would be a good chance.

Had a friend that worked in Napier Art Gallery dealing with that sort of stuff a few years back ...

    Good luck mate

    Yep, thats a good start.

Also, check out the government website covering the Ministry for the Arts. They have a certain amount of funding and application procedures are usually posted there.

It;s worth getting in touch with your local MP as well through the electorate office. They can advise you on funding arrangements.

You can approach the local business associations, if your idea appeals to them they may sponsor it, that depends on if you are happy giving them some advertising at the same time but you necer know.

Lottery Commission can also help sometimes, see if they would like to chip in.

All in all, it can be a long and frustrating journey but all you can do is persevere. I'm punting around for someone to fund my writing at the moment and have had modest interest so far, keep at it mate because it will come right in the end.

    Respect.....

If any one of the other loser artist had put a pile of bullshit on the gallery floor maybe they would have walked away with the $15k?

Not only would it be a living work of art, you could also smell it, as well as look at it.

I'm already very happy - is that enough?

CreativeNZ might be worth a shot - they fund the arts in NZ...

Cheers for that! I have spoken to CreativeNZ and a couple of local museums and received a very favourable response. Awaiting application papers from them now.
I've also been put on to the council and the a couple of community based funders to see what support they can give - possibly with the materials I require for the installation I'm, planning.

But bad boys get the girl...
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
