    Orh! Bugger, aye!

But I hope the new dude don't find out you guys would rather he was a chick-a-dee... haha!

I don't know if being of a gurlie consistancy helped me get offered the bike job, but I know I wouldn't have been offered it, if I wasn't me. (made sense when I thunk it)
There are a number of females in bike stores here. But have never known of a female mechanic or bike salesperson.

Hope the boss goes for some balance next time & understands that female riders/pillions want to have the option to deal with a salesperson who can relate to them about stuff that affects females.

I have had several women customers say how glad they were that there was a woman saleperson to get advice/help from. (gosh).
Even some men want to know a females opinion on products. Cool one guys.

    goodluck next time, cfwb

Ha ha I completely agree with everyone saying that its a bit much with all this legal PC stuff. And this is where a female may come in handy. To tell you guys to put your claws away and chill out. Too much testosterone. I agree that it would be good to have a female for other woman to relate too. We look for different things in a bike and we communicate differently. Its a shame you got a guy.

Here here! It is a great idea...girls that know their bikes are passionate about them and that actually do ride. Not the 'keen to hook up with a bike riding guy' types. Hazel where for art thou? She was the best most onto it chick I experienced in the trade in Welly...but then she did have a great man training her up

When I used to 'help out' (or try to) at the bike shop with hubby in the old old days (like 7 years or so ago ) I remember that female customers who rode for themselves were few and far between...unlike these days. All the guys coming in never wanted to speak with me they always wanted the 'menfolk' this was fine - except when it was something stupidly simple that I actually knew, why take a womans word for it? They would want to to speak with the fellas and I would quietly smile when they had to wait and wait just to be told the same thing anyway. I remember helping some ladies try on and buy new gears and they commented that they liked being able to talk to a female about gear fit and their bodies 'special fashion/comfort needs'

She can too and lots of other stuff - hardly any excuses to use the girls to get jobs done actually.

Amazing how it always 'sounds' right when a guy tells them. I'm glad to say some things have changed. Most of the guys who come in/phone have no hesitation about talking with us girls re: bike related stuff. I don't know alot about bikes, but can converse enough to assist with what they need & am always willing to listen to what they have to say.

And yeah, the females like another chickie to help when buying gear. Mind you the blokes are pretty cool about letting me help fit them. (behave ).

I figure listening & learning is the best way to get respect & recognition in any industry, regardless of being female or male.

    Correct!

One thing I have noticed though is that the chicks seem to be far more likely to admit if they don't know something and go away and ask or look shit up...however some of the young guys that I have dealt with on occasion have really pissed me off. One in particular I note no longer works at Wellington Motorcycles - I personally won't miss him...he was a cocky little upstart who I think thought he was the bees knees cos he worked in a bike shop...he also clearly thought that I couldn't possibly know anything about MY bike and nor did he stop to think that I might have a clued up hubby who would point out how far wrong he was in his 'advice'.

SO from that perspective I can see why people might shy away from a new person (male or female) I do! I tend to deal with the guys I have known for years whom I trust with my baby - unless it's just accessories I am after.

I don't care who I talk to in a bike shop, as long as they appear to know what they're talking about (unlike me)
